What's New with CMCSS

A few days prior to the beginning of the 2026-27 school year, officials from Clarksville-Montgomery County School System (CMCSS) invited members of the media and other special guests to check out some of the newest additions to what is consistently ranked near the top five to ten large urban-suburban districts in Tennessee.

First was the Burt Innovation Center, a Founders, INC, hub for student entrepreneurs from across district high schools that features tech-focused spaces and classrooms, maker-spaces with 3D printers, an esports room, collaborative team prep spaces, and modern conference rooms.

CMCSS Director of Communications, Anthony Johnson, said, “We are excited to have visitors today to come see our brand new Founders, Inc. in the Burt Innovation Center. We really appreciate being able to share the history of Dr. Burt and the Burt community, and how we are taking that history of innovation and community and helping a new generation of
students to really think outside the box, and not only succeed
themselves but help our entire community succeed.

The next stop was Freedom Elementary, which brings CMCSS to a total of 26 public elementary schools. Located at 1776 Wallace Blvd, near the Clarksville Regional Airport, the school will be able to accommodate roughly 850 students Pre-K - 5th grade. The 104,000 sf facility costs just under $45 million.

Director of Communications Johnson said, “We are so excited to be catching up with our capacity. We appreciate the MoCo Commission and Mayor Golden for helping us address the overcrowding we were seeing. It has relieved capacity at about nine of our schools as we've done rezoning. It's better for our students and our community."

Arts for Hearts Fundraiser

Arts for Hearts, operating under Clarksville Arts & Heritage Council, provides free, accessible art workshops and supplies for children and adults in our community who otherwise might not have a lot of creative opportunities.

Started by Barbara Kane and Rita Arancibia, Arts for Hearts is now in its tenth year, thanks to a “great group of very dedicated, passionate volunteers.” The all-volunteer group creates and hosts art projects all throughout the community.

“So many want to do art, but don't know where to start and/or don't have the materials,” Kane said. “We offer classes and show them how. We have very patient, wonderful people who will guide them through a variety of projects.”

Students can find classes in painting, watercolor, ceramics, stained glass, alcohol inks, wood-burning, metal stamping, monoprints, gel printing, drawing, and more. Recently, everyone who attended a drawing class was given a sketchbook to take home.

The group gathers at the Habitat Restore community room once a month, as well as at Fort Campbell Army Fisher House and Refinery on the River. They also work with the Wade Bourne Nature Center and other locations around town.

For their recent fundraiser, only their second in ten years, Arts for Hearts hosted a Christmas in July Gala at the historic L&N Train Station. Local artists donated hand-painted ornaments, tiny framed pictures, and other items that were part of a silent auction.

Guests bought tickets for the event that included charcuterie, cookies, and specialty cocktails. They enjoyed live music while they bid on their favorite works of art. All the proceeds will fund additional art projects in the community.

The Tea House has relocated to 2670 Madison St., Suite E, with a new space for tea, shopping, private gatherings, and community events.

Owned by Christy Bing, The Tea House offers pharmacy-grade teas, lemonade, coffee, tea-related products, and handbags from New Hope Girls. The expanded space is available for tea parties, bridal showers, and other special events.

“I want The Tea House to be a place where people can slow down, feel welcome, and find a little peace,” Bing said.

The Tea House will also host upcoming events, arts and crafts activities, classes, and more. Follow The Tea House on social media for hours, announcements, and event schedules.
