January 4, 2025 FHP Fatal Crash - Holmes County.

A three-vehicle crash in Holmes County that occurred at approximately 7:45 am Friday, Jan 3rd, has claimed the life of two people and sent two others to the hospital by helicopter.
A 77-year-old DeFuniak Springs man was fatally injured when the pick-up truck he was driving westbound crossed into the eastbound lanes of traffic and collided with a second pickup truck driven by a 65-year-old Bonifay woman who was also fatally injured. The first pick-up truck then spun counterclockwise, rolled over several times and came to rest right side up in a ditch on the south side of the roadway. The second pickup truck rotated counterclockwise in the eastbound lanes and collided head-on into a SUV that was also eastbound behind her that was driven by a 45-year-old Ponce De Leon woman. The SUV then traveled backwards onto the north shoulder of the roadway and collided with a group of small trees in the wood line. The driver of the SUV sustained serious injuries and a 36-year-old female passenger from Bonifay in the second pickup truck sustained critical injuries, both of which were airlifted to a nearby hospital.
The fatal accident occurred on US 90 in Holmes County near the Walton County line.
Walton County Fire Rescue provided mutual aid to Homes County EMS and Ponce De Leon Volunteer Fire & Recue as well as Walton Air Rescue and Okaloosa Med Flight. Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol investigated the fatal collision with assistance from Holmes County and Walton County Sheriff’s Offices.

January 4, 2025 Freezing Temperatures This Coming Week.

Don’t let the 70-degree temperatures on Sunday fool you, we will see our first hard freeze for the season this coming week.
The weather is expected to bring a lot of wind and rain Sunday and Monday morning. You will see 70-degree temperatures and wind gusts up to 30 mph Sunday during the day and temperatures in the low 50’s Sunday night with a 90 percent of rain and wind gusts up to 40 mph. Going into Monday, you will see the high at MIDNIGHT in the low 60’s and then its downhill from there.
There will be a slight chance of rain and thunderstorms Monday morning as the temperatures gradually continue to fall with winds out of the northwest at 15 to 20 mph gusting up to 40 mph. By Monday afternoon, temperatures are expected to be in the mid 40’s with wind gusts up to 30 mph. By 7pm Monday night, temperatures will be near freezing and continue to drop to the mid 20’s, that right, I said mid 20’s overnight.
Going into Tuesday, temperatures are not expected to get out of the 40’s and then plummet back into the mid 20’s Tuesday night. Wednesday and Thursday will not be any better with highs in the upper 40’s to near 50 and the lows will be back in the 20’s. By Friday you will see the rain return with a 30 percent chance, however temperatures are expected to remain in the mid 40’s. If the pattern continues, there is a very good chance you will see snow flurries if not sleet.
Needless to say, be prepared for damaging winds and a strong possibility of tornadoes Sunday night and early Monday morning as well as frost Monday night through the rest of the week. Make sure you take the opportunity Sunday during the day to protect any exposed pipes as well as plants and animals. Clod weather shelters will be open this coming week for those without heat. Make sure you check on those who are vulnerable to the cold such as the elderly.

Training Exercise Camp Okaloosa, 7702 Creston Barrow Baker, FL – December 6, 2024

The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) Special Response Team (SRT) and Crisis Negotiations Team (CNT) will participate in a joint training exercise today, December 6, 2024, to enhance their operational capabilities and coordination during a large-scale critical incident.

The exercise, which will also involve patrol deputies, is designed to test the teams' ability to work together in real-time scenarios that may require the use of specialized tactics and negotiation strategies. The goal of the training is to ensure that each team member is prepared to respond quickly and effectively, maintaining public safety while addressing complex and high-stress situations.

“This joint exercise is an essential part of maintaining readiness for high-intensity incidents,” said Sheriff Aden. “By practicing together, the Special Response Team, Crisis Negotiations Team, and patrol officers ensure seamless coordination in critical situations, helping us serve and protect the residents of Okaloosa County.”

The training will be conducted at Camp Okaloosa located at 7702 Creston Barrow Rd. in Baker, FL, so residents in the area can expect a large law enforcement presence; however, the training will not interfere with regular public activities. Residents are encouraged not to be alarmed if they observe an increased law enforcement presence or tactical operations.

The OCSO is committed to providing the highest level of safety and professionalism in all law enforcement operations. These types of exercises are vital to ensure the department’s readiness and to strengthen the cooperation between various units within the Sheriff's Office.
