CRESTVIEW RESPONDS TO FATAL CAMPER FIRE

On Friday at 1213PM, 33 minutes into the RV Fire that your Crestview Firefighters were operating at (posted earlier), we were dispatched to a separate incident of a Camper Fire with reports of someone trapped off of Mapoles Street in Crestview.

Crestview's Engine 1 was getting their equipment back on their truck at the first RV fire at the time, and quickly released to respond to this incident, North Okaloosa Fire Department was notified as Mutual-Aid to supplement manpower, as the remaining companies were still operating at the first fire incident.

Chief 1, Marshal 3, Inspector 4, Engine 1, Battalion 1, and North Okaloosa Fire Department arrived on scene to a Camper that was nearly completely consumed by flames with several 'explosions' reported.

On Engine 1's arrival, crews immediately began suppression efforts of the Camper, as well as, establishing a water supply. Shortly after, it was confirmed that an individual was inside of the camper at the time of the fire and was unable to escape. Crews were able to control the fire within approximately 10 minutes from arrival.

Engine 1 remained on scene post fire, cooling hot spots and awaited the arrival of the Florida State Fire Marshal. There were no Fire Department Personnel injuries related to this incident.

The Investigation into the incident is being conducted by Law Enforcement . There was no immediate cause of fire or identification of the victim made by Fire Department Personnel.

Other assisting agencies in this incident included: Crestview Police Department, Okaloosa County EMS, North Okaloosa Fire Department, and the Florida State Fire Marshal's Office.

CRESTVIEW RESPONDS TO RV FIRE THREATENING RESIDENCE

Engine 2, Truck 3, Engine 1, and Battalion 1 all responded to Cloverview Lane for a fully involved RV behind a home at 11AM on Friday. Initial calls reported a possible brush fire in a backyard that upgraded into a possible structure fire while crews were en route.

Engine 2 arrived on scene within 3 minutes to find an RV burning in the backyard approximately 10 feet from the home. Crews quickly stretched hoselines to the rear of the property to contain the fire, as well as, protect the house from the spreading flames that began to melt the vinyl siding.

Due to the quick response and actions of the crews on scene, it was determined the house only sustained exterior damage, while the RV was considered a total loss. There were no additional injuries in this incident, and all residents made it out of the home safely.

THIS POST WILL BE FOLLOWED BY AN ADDITIONAL PRESS RELEASE OF A SEPARATE INCIDENT THAT FIREFIGHTERS RESPONDED TO SIMULTANEOUSLY ON FRIDAY

Meet Baptiste, our intern from France! 🇫🇷 He has been interning with us for almost 2 months now, thanks to the exchange program between Crestview Area Sister City Ambassadors and Noirmoutier (Shoutout to Brian Hughes, our Cultural Services Specialist, for his help in making it all happen).

Baptiste is a graduate student pursuing his master's degree in engineering and is interning under our Public Services Department.

"This experience will allow me to learn a lot about civil engineering and the city's roles in everyday life. I have been here for almost 2 months now, and it's been a dream to come to this authentic town in northwest Florida, just a few miles from the beautiful Emerald Coast." - Baptiste
