Historically, Krampusnacht or "Krampus Night" is on December 5th, the eve of Saint Nicholas Day. Its origins date back to winter solstice celebrations and Norse mythology. 🎅🌙
In modern times, Krampus has gained recognition from Alpine regions of Europe which include: Austria, Germany, Slovenia, Hungary, and Czech Republic and has gained popularity in the United States. 🌎🗺
The Krampuslauf, or “Krampus Run” which has people dress up as a folkloric mythical creatures in fur suits, carved wooden masks, and carrying cowbells. 🔔
Krampus is the counterpart to St. Nicholas, who rewards good children’s, while Krampus punishes the bad ones.
On December 7th, Crestline locals gathered for a fast growing Krampus tradition that started as just 1 person.
