Winter went from ❄️ this to that 🌞➡️⁠ on the Western Slope of Colorado. The quicker-than-typical weather swing caught me a little off guard. ⁠How about you?⁠

Check out ongoing updates to .lily.farm, a Farmer Florist website created for a once-new farm in Paonia, Colorado. The original need was to not only inform but convert viewers into members. Offering a take on a CSA, but with flowers, this website had fun imagery to work with and provided the challenge of a brand new and not fully defined brand.⁠

How in the heck do you decide which platforms to use??? By the time I’m done writing this sentence, there will likely be at least one new platform to consider! 🤪

Here are some of my thoughts on helping my clients decide where to spend their precious time online...

A few ways to approach the decision:
📊 consider the stats,
⌛ consider your capacity (time, bandwidth, and willingness to learn how to DIY or outsource),
🏢 your location and type of business (service, brick and mortar, online, local, national, worldwide)
👀 and above all, consider where your ideal customers are AND if they want to see you (your business) on that platform?

I like to say, "Everything is “figuroutable”. Do what you have capacity for and not anything more. There is nothing worse than a brand's social account that has nothing but some posts from 2 years ago. If a potential customer sees that, what kind of impression does it give? If you can’t stick with it, don’t start it. If you have started and are having trouble keeping up, make a plan, outsource, or make a final post that says “We aren’t using this platform anymore, keep up with us at…” (Hot tip! That location should be your website, where you encourage them to stay in touch via your email list.)

With all of this in mind, ask yourself, “Where is my ideal client? Where do they hang out? In real life, online, where are they?” Then you go there, you hang out there, and you build a relationship with them there. I promise you they are not in and your business doesn't have to be, either.

What a busy couple of weeks (months?)! It always is, right? And always goes by faster and faster? I somehow managed to snap this pic on our way to visit friends in Colorado Springs for my birthday and to watch their talented daughter perform in the Nutcracker! Christmas quickly came and went followed by a trip back East.⁠

Not that you or anyone needs an "excuse" to be absent from social media, especially during the holidays (aggghmm and most of January...), but there's mine. I was busy being present (and taking care of my Membership and Consulting clients who get tip-top priority!)⁠

When I work with clients I help them define or re-define their brand, it's inherent in the website design process. So while this is something I help clients with all the time, I forgot about it for my own brand🤦🏼‍♀️.⁠
