Welcome to the Wilderness!
Hello to my new friends! Welcome to the Wilderness! My name is Kathy and I'm a 45-year-old wife and mama. Our son is 11 (almost 12) years old...where does the time go! We also have two sassy pugs, Sophie and Josie. I live in the Northwoods of Wisconsin, work from home full time for a great company and, you guessed it, I have ADD.
How I learned that I have ADD
My journey with ADD has been a bit all over the place, to be honest. I was first diagnosed while I was in college. I had been just starting to talk with a counselor in the Student Health Service office where I also worked part time. We were talking about the typical college kid stuff when he asked me if I had ever been evaluated for ADHD. I was a bit shocked as I had always been a good student and got good grades in my younger years, but I told him that I'd be willing to take some tests and see. Low and behold, my results showed that I did indeed have ADHD. As I continued working with my student counselor, we discovered that I didn't so much have the 'H' but definitely had the 'AD'.
I began taking medication and I was able to see the difference as I finished up my college years. Once I graduated though, my new job combined with very little medical insurance, contributed to going off the medication for a number of years. Once I met my now husband and we started settling into our life together I began to really notice some of those old 'symptoms' rearing their ugly heads. My focus dwindled making my work life and my home life chaotic. I was missing due dates for bills and was in general just very disorganized. I began feeling like I couldn't get a handle on my life. I decided that I needed to talk with my doctor about getting back on track.
Trails through the Wilderness
My goal for this blog is to share some stories with you about my journey in this ADHD wilderness. I'd like to share some tips that have helped me as well as offer some ideas and products that could help you as well. I hope to build a community that feels free to share our ideas. As they say, it takes a village. I hope that you join me on the trails through the wilderness.
