2021 Crime Stats, from CPD:

Every year the Covington Police Department release the annual Uniform Crime Report Stats. Please see the graphic below for 2021’s stats for the City of Covington.

We are pleased to see that 2021’s report reflects there was a 31% decrease in overall crime in the City of Covington for 2021. We attribute this to the men and women of the Covington Police Department who worked tirelessly to ensure a good quality of life for the citizens of Covington, and to the citizens for your assistance, as we can’t do this alone.

Thank you.

Chief Michael Ferrell

BURN BAN: There is a parish wide burn ban in effect. Fires spreading as the result of burning debris can easily spread endangering lives and property. Emergency services are already spread thin. Please refrain from burning until further notice.

From CPD, curfew lifted:

From CPD, curfew lifted:

The City of Covington curfew has been lifted. We want to remind citizens that even though the curfew has been lifted, many traffic lights are still not functioning properly. There are also several areas inside of the city that still do not have power and the streets are dark. For this reason, citizens will encounter intersections that are busy due to high traffic. When there is an intersection without traffic lights, you must treat that intersection as a four way stop.

Drive carefully and be nice to one another.

Precautionary Boil Order Advisory effective 8/30/21: The City of Covington has issued a City-wide precautionary boil advisory until City crews have completed damage assessments in the wake of Hurricane Ida.

CLECO Update ETA 10:00am: Power to PD, FD and CH now off. Supposition is CLECO is working transmission lines to hospital. Sidenote: PD, FD and City Hall are not priorities. They just happen to be en route to the Hospital.

Recap: Monday morning Pub Works and Fire teamed up to open main thoroughfares. Hence, when pre-arranged tree removal contractors arrived Monday afternoon, they could immediately begin making progress. By yesterday afternoon, many / most streets were open. Hence, when CLECO deployed this morning, we (Covington) were a prime target for repair. Today our City is being swarmed by CLECO trucks and their subcontractors like a kicked yellow jacket nest. It's a good thing.

Stay Safe, MMJ

separating your debris:

Please share this graphic with your neighbors on how to properly place debris on curbside/roadside. Improper placement of debris could impede drainage and hinder progress our contractors and Public Works Crews are making.

Thank you!

From Parish Government:

PODS are not open at this time. We are expecting to have them open tomorrow by the National Guard at a location in eastern and western St. Tammany.

St. Tammany Parish submitted a request for the PODS on Monday. However, so did much of Southeast Louisiana. Please be patient, stay tuned for updates.

***STAY AWAY FROM ALL POWER LINES***

Reports are coming in of power be restored in certain parts of the Parish. Downed lines could be live!

09/01/2021

***Utility companies are asking for our help***

Please yield in traffic to utility trucks. Allow them to pass in traffic situations and please drive carefully around them.

Please do not stop crews from working to ask them questions. It slows their production and could expose them to COVID. We need every crewmember in the field, a COVID outbreak among crewmembers would be a tremendous setback to progress.

Let's work together !

Farmer's Market on Saturday:

Farmer's Market on Saturday:

Hello everyone! We sure hope all of our customers and vendors faired well in the storm. The devastation Ida has brought to our community and the surrounding area is just unfathomable. But we are Louisiana strong and we’ll come back better then ever! We wanted to reach out and let you all know that as of now we do plan to still hold our market on Saturday. We can’t guarantee we’ll have a lot of vendors out but we do have a couple that have already committed. We’ll do our very best to provide what we can. Please check back with us periodically in case there’s a last minute change to that. Wishing you all the best!
