✈️Run/walk the Flight Line 5K on Saturday, Sept 7 at 8 a.m. The gates open at 7 a.m. for same-day registration.
FREE EVENT and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!

⚓NAS Whidbey Open House opens at 9 a.m. - Growler, P-8, SAR, Fed Fire, EOD displays, Navy Band Performance, SAR, and K9 demonstrations. All guests should use Charles Porter Gate to enter the base; you'll be directed where to park.

*Due to security measures, the following items are not allowed on the base: drugs or drug paraphernalia (including ma*****na products), alcohol, bags larger than 12"x6"x12", backpacks, weapons (including pocketknives), coolers and pets. Permitted Items: strollers, diaper bags, small women's purses, wheelchairs, bottled water, cameras and video recorders.

I think the "moon trees" are going to be blooming tonight. Should be quite a show.

Here comes the rare SUPER Blue Moon!! Tonight and tomorrow's full moon will appear especially large this month as it is closer to earth now than any other time of year.

But that's not all! Statistically, this full moon is a spectacle in itself, as it is the 2nd year in a row we have had a "blue moon" and it is the LAST blue moon (2nd full moon in a month) that we will have until 2037.

EVEN BETTER, the moon will be rising during blue hour (the period of time just before sunrise or just after sunset that the sun is below the horizon and the sky and landscapes take on a vibrant lyrics blue color) AND it will be setting during blue hour!!

So the "blue moon" is just a term used for the rarity in that it's the 2nd in a month or in this case the 3rd full moon in a season with 4 full Moons. (the moon does not actually appear blue), but this year it will actually hold a little more relevance since everything else will appear blue during blue hour as it rises and sets! Pretty cool!

If you can help it, dont miss it! I know ill be searching for clear skies to try to capture this Extra Large, Ultra rare full moon 🌕

I captured this image with the top of the Cape Disappointment lighthouse in front of it, and it was no easy task! I found myself scurrying over and around massive driftwood, setting my tripod up to get this shot, only to keep finding out the moon had moved faster than I expected , so in a last ditch effort I sprinted to the final spot I would have the chance to line this photo up perfectly, and waited, barely getting my tripod locked in and a few photos snapped before the opportunity was gone 😍
