An alert Council Grove Republican reader contacted the Council Grove Republican on Monday to ask if we had a firm calling to renew newspaper subscriptions. The quick answer is, "No" We send out postcards or put notices inside in-town newspapers encouraging subscribers to renew. Our e-edition customers also get a reminder from the same company that distributes the e-edition.

The subscriber that was called asked the scammer what the name of the newspaper was and he could not answer, only referring to the publication as "your local newspaper." The caller asked for credit card information. Please beware and know that we do not use phone solicitations for renewals.

The 36-Hour Day group meets on Thursdays from 1-2 pm in the Meditation Room (Chapel) at the Morris County Hospital. The group is open to all and free of charge.
