This Sunday is the CORVALLIS SPRING ROLL, a community bike and trike ride and cycle fair for kids. Open Streets Corvallis will be at the cycle fair from 10 am to 1 pm at Cloverland Park.

We're looking at some improvements to the collection of buildings that house city services downtown (City Hall, Municipal Court, Community Development, and Finance billing). Improvements to the Civic Campus are intended to address safety, resiliency, accessibility, and energy efficiency. The improvements are also part of the broader conversation about city facility needs and reinvesting in downtown Corvallis.

The City of Corvallis and Benton County Emergency Management (BCEM) programs are pleased to announce their collaboration on a wildfire evacuation drill for Benton County on Saturday, May 18th, from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

The County's Temporary Evacuation Point (TEP) is the Kalapuya Building on SW Research Way, Corvallis. The City’s TEP will be the Northwest Hills Community Church on Walnut in Corvallis. The drills will involve Community Emergency Response Team volunteers to ensure a coordinated and effective response.

The drill will serve as a valuable opportunity for residents and emergency responders to practice wildfire evacuation procedures and test communication systems. It is part of ongoing efforts to enhance emergency preparedness in Benton County.

"We are excited to partner with the City of Corvallis on this important drill," said BCEM Manager Bryan Lee. "By working together, we can better prepare our community for emergencies and ensure that everyone is safe and informed."

Residents can sign up for emergency evacuation route notifications with the Linn-Benton ALERT system at https://sheriff.bentoncountyor.gov/linn-benton-alert/. After signing up for the alerts you will receive all emergency-related notifications related to your location.

Participating households have been provided detailed information about the exercise. Community members may notice additional traffic in the area as the evacuation drill gets underway. Unless there is an emergency, neighbors are advised to not call 9-1-1. Please contact the Benton County Call Center at 541-766-6200 with questions about the drill.

NORTH STORE TEMPORARILY CLOSED. A car crashed into the main building of our North Store at 2855 NW Grant Ave this morning (Wednesday, May 15). Thankfully, no one was hurt in the accident, but we will need to temporarily close the store to assess damages and determine next steps. The South Store at 1007 SE Third St remains open for all your shopping needs. Thanks for your understanding, and please drive safely!

A person suspected of driving impaired slammed into the rear of a Corvallis patrol vehicle Sunday, May 12, at 1:30 a.m., at the intersection of Hwy 99 W and NE Conifer Blvd.

Witnesses report seeing the patrol vehicle slow down on Hwy 99 W and begin a signaled righthand turn at the light onto NE Conifer Blvd when it was hit from behind by Amanda Johnston, 24, of Albany. Witness accounts and investigation at the scene suggest Johnston was traveling at speeds close to 50 mph when the collision occurred.

Benton County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the scene and performed standardized field sobriety tests that determined Johnston was showing indications of impairment. BSCO deputies subsequently arrested Johnston for a DUII-Alcohol and Reckless Driving. Johnston’s blood alcohol content registered at .19 percent at the time of her processing. Johnston was cited and released.

The Corvallis police officer involved in the collision was assessed at a local hospital for minor injuries. The patrol vehicle was totaled.

Dispatcher Haley Aides In Childbirth...
Only a month into her job, Corvallis Emergency Dispatcher Hayley completed a feat most dispatchers do not accomplish in a career. She stepped a couple through the birth of their child.

On Tuesday, May 7, the Corvallis Regional 9-1-1 Communications Center received a call from a frantic husband whose wife was in labor and urgently required assistance. Before medics arrived, Hayley successfully guided the couple through the childbirth process.

As a thank you, Corvallis Police Chief Jason Harvey has presented Hayley with a Letter of Commendation. The CPD congratulates the new parents, as well. (photo and info. from the City of Corvallis Police Department Facebook site.)

More than 300 runners did their part this weekend for a good cause. They came together May 11 at the Benton County Fairgrounds for the 22nd annual CARDV 5k. The event benefits the Corvallis-based Center Against R**e and Domestic Violence.

CARDV provides services and support to those affected by sexual and domestic violence, and also provides education and leadership within the community to change the societal conditions that cultivate these forms of violence.

Crescent Valley rallied to defeat a tough Albany squad 8-7 in a home game played Wednesday evening. West Albany plated 5 runs in the top half of the first, only to see the lead evaporate in the third as the home Raiders’ bats came alive for 6 runs. The rally was capped off by a two-run dinger from T.J. Deen.
Behind starting pitcher Dominic White, Crescent Valley hung on for an 8-7 victory.
