Congratulations to Olivia Gingrich, of Sinton High School, as our Student Athlete of the Week! Olivia is a sophomore at Sinton with a 4.2 grade point average, placing her at number ten in her class. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council, all while being an important member of the Pirate tennis team.
Olivia is planning on attending Texas A&M after she graduates in ’27 and will enter a pre-med program to become an anesthesiologist. Although Olivia will consider continuing her tennis career if she is offered a scholarship at another school.
Olivia has a passion for photography and loves to take pictures of the wildlife around her home. Once she discovered photography class at school, she naturally joined the yearbook team. She has numerous events she has captured for the yearbook this summer, including tennis matches and theater events. In her spare time, she loves to spend time hunting with her dad.

Congratulations to Dietrich Lopez, of John Paul II High School, as our Student Athlete of the Week! Dietrich is a senior with a 3.8 grade point average. This is Dietrich’s first year at JP II, he was at Banquete High School for three years prior to moving to Corpus. He was the treasurer for Student Council at Banquete.
After graduation, Dietrich will attend college and pursue a degree in criminal justice. He intends to become a criminal defense attorney. If he does not receive a scholarship to play baseball, Dietrich will start his journey at Del Mar College.
Since his arrival at JP II, he has become a leader that his peers respect and look up to. Lopez has been outstanding on the mound for the Centurions, striking out 16 batters on two separate occasions this spring. He also is hitting 14 for 14 over the last 3 games, including 5 doubles.
Dietrich has volunteered his time at both Banquete and JP II with various events. He and his teammates bought and delivered presents to elementary school students for Christmas. He has also helped setup and organize Retreat at JP II.

Please help us congratulate, Kaida Martinez, of Bishop High School, as our Student Athlete of the Week! Kaida, a senior, has a 3.6 grade point average and is ranking her 16th in her class of 105 students. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Martinez is also a 4-year varsity cheerleader for the Badgers and a key member of the Powerlifting team.
Kaida has been accepted to Texas State University where she will pursue a nursing degree this fall. She plans to become a travel nurse which will allow her to pursue her dreams of helping people across the country.
Martinez fell in love with powerlifting and calls herself a gym rat. Her passion for lifting weights has also paid dividends to her. She won the class 3A division 1 championship for region 5, qualifying her for the State meet, where Kaida placed 2nd overall! She also holds the school record in her weight class for squats at 440 pounds.
She has also given back to her community by working in the concessions at baseball games. Kaida and her powerlifting teammates have also taken part in a food drive to benefit the local community. She and the nursing student at Bishop have also visited a local nursing home, where they were not only to practice their skills, but also spend time with the residents.

Congratulations to Efehan Van Niekerk, of London High School, as our Student Athlete of the Week! “Efe” is a senior soccer player for the Pirates and has a 3.67 grade point average. He is a member of the National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Efe has been playing soccer ever since he was a little boy. His love for the game has developed him into one of the premier players in the area. His future on the pitch is not over after his senior season is complete. He recently secured a sports agent and will play professional soccer after he graduates this summer in Spain. Once his career is complete, he will attend college and pursue a degree in kinesiology. His long-term goal is to become a chiropractor.

Efehan has spent his time as an individual mentor for the youth at Church Unlimited. He will also help with the upcoming London prom later this year.

Please help us congratulate Addie Aleman, of Incarnate Word Academy, as our Student Athlete of the Week! Addie is a junior at IWA and has a 3.9 grade point average. She is a member of the National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, T.O.K.C. and Mu Alpha Theta. Addie is also a multi-sport athlete in both softball and track and field.
Aleman is having a fantastic season for the Angels softball team. So far, Addie has received an offer to play at the next level but will keep her options open for the time being. She plans to earn a degree in business with a focus on both residential and commercial real estate. Her dream job is to become a successful real estate agent.
In her spare time, Addie volunteered as a worker for the annual Angel Fest at IWA with setup, operation, and breakdown. She also spends her time as a small business owner, creating and selling sports themed fleece blankets.
She and her Angel teammates also helped with a big task recently. IWA was able to take over Price Field from the city of Corpus Christi. Over the past year, the players and coaches worked tirelessly to take the overgrown fields and transform them into playable surfaces. Through their hard work and long volunteer hours, the Angels now have their own home fields to play their games at.

Congratulations to Cesar Rodriguez, of Ingleside High School, as our Student Athlete of the Week! Cesar is a senior at Ingleside with a 4.2 grade point average and is ranked number three in his class. He is a member of the National Honor Society and is taking A.P. and dual-credit courses. After he graduates, Cesar will have around thirty college credits. He is also the captain for the Mustangs soccer team.
Next fall, Cesar will attend the University of Texas at Austin and pursue a degree in finance. His long-term goal is to become an entrepreneur and own and operate multiple small businesses here in the Coastal Bend.
He has volunteered his time at Ingleside by tutoring 5th grade students in both science and mathematics. Also, Cesar has wrapped gifts for the patients at Driscoll Children’s Hospital and been a volunteer soccer coach for Ingleside seventh and eighth graders.
