Congratulations to John Michael Champine, of King High School, as our Student Athlete of the Week! John is a senior at King with a 3.9 grade point average and ranked sixty-eight in his class. He is also on track to graduate with twenty-four dual credit college hours. John is a multi-sport athlete for the Mustangs in both basketball and golf.
John intends to major in kinesiology and exercise science at Texas A&M University. His long-term goal is to become either a professional basketball player or an athletic trainer. He is also keeping his options open on attending another college if he receives an athletic or academic scholarship.
He and the Mustang basketball team have volunteered their time as greeters with the local elementary schools near King. In his spare time, John also volunteers his time with his church and doing chores for his grandma.
John is also working towards a unique goal. King has an award for a student athlete that competes in two sports and achieves academic excellence. It is the Champine award, named after John’s uncle.
