Congratulations to Jae’la Hicks, of West Oso High School, as our Student Athlete of the Week! Jae’la, a senior at West Oso has a 4.9 grade point average and will graduate with 12 dual credit hours. She is also a multi-sport athlete for basketball and track and field.
Jae’la is having an amazing day today. Not only is she being recognized as our Student Athlete of the Week, but it’s also her 18th birthday and she signed her letter of intent to play college basketball at Saint Edwards University.
At Saint Edwards, she intends to major in kinesiology and plans on becoming a high school coach after college. In her spare time, Jae’la loves to play video games, especially Call of Duty. She has also volunteered her time as a basketball coach at the Boys and Girls Club, boasting an undefeated record. Recently, Jae’la and her teammates participated in reading under the lights, where they read books to the local elementary students.

A Corpus Christi resident claimed a top prize winning ticket worth $1 million in the Texas Lottery® scratch ticket game 500X. The ticket was purchased at Baldwin Food Mart, located at 1802 Baldwin Blvd., in Corpus Christi. The claimant elected to remain anonymous.

This was the second of 15 top prizes worth $1 million to be claimed in this game. 500X offers more than $229 million in total prizes. Overall odds of winning any prize in the game are one in 3.36, including break-even prizes

Please help us congratulate Jesse Castillo, of King High School, as our Student Athlete of the Week! Jesse is a junior at King with a 3.8 grade point average and is a member of student council. He is also a multi-sport athlete for the Mustangs in cross country and track and field.
Jesse is currently undecided where he will attend college. His heart is set on going to UTSA, but he will go to a different school if offered a scholarship. He intends to major in kinesiology with a sports emphasis.
He has volunteered his time with the cross-country team as parking lot attendants at the varsity football games. In his spare time, he loves to go fishing and with his art. He enjoys making pottery and finds it intriguing.
This past summer, Jesse ran the entire beach to bay marathon as a solo runner.
