I’m honored to have the endorsement of the Corpus Christi Police Officers Association.

The men and women of law enforcement put their lives on the line every day to keep our community safe. They deserve leaders who respect their service, back them without hesitation, and fight for public safety.

As your State Representative, I’ll always stand with law enforcement and work to keep the Coastal Bend and District 32 safe.

It is with great pride that we announce our very own CCFD Deputy Chief Doug Matthijetz has been selected as the newest Texas Fire Chief. He has been appointed as the Fire Chief for the Copperas Cove Fire Department.

Deputy Chief Doug Matthijetz has 35½ years of dedicated service to the Corpus Christi Fire Department and the city of Corpus Christi. Chief Matthijetz has been an integral leader within CCFD leading as an officer in the field, an Assistant Chief over Training, Facilities, and Risk Management. He has been a role model for firefighters throughout his career providing mentorship and guidance to countless firefighters and officers.

Chief Matthijetz is retiring as the Deputy Chief over Administration in which he oversees Fleet, Logistics, Facilities, Training, Risk Management, and the Fire Marshal’s Office. While he has left his mark on the department in many ways his recent leadership with taking the lead role on department wide cancer screenings and building the foundation for a wellness program is a legacy that will benefit firefighters and their families for years to come.

Chief Matthijetz will be greatly missed, however we are excited for his future. We know he will lead his new department to many future achievements.

We appreciate him and his supportive family. We wish them well in their new community!
