Del Mar Intramurals is hosting its “Huffin’ for Stuffin’” Color Run today at 11 A.M. Come check out the colorful fun on Heritage campus right outside the Harvin Center! Registration begins at 10am, there’s still plenty of spots!

Del Mar College’s Student Veterans Association held a Two-Bell Ceremony honoring all veterans who have served with all branches of the U.S. military as part of recognizing Veterans Day.

Dr. Jennifer Armentrout, Sergeant Major, USMC (ret) and the College’s Director of Veterans Services, says the Two-Bell Ceremony will be the first official Veterans Day ceremony since 2019.
“Veterans Services wanted to bring the ceremony back to show support for more than 700 student veterans and student veteran families on campus,” she says, adding: “The Two-Bell Ceremony is a Naval tradition that is a testimony to humility, dignity, reverence and honor. We will honor all five branches of service during this ceremony and as we remember those who have served and are currently serving.”

For student veteran and DMC Psychology major Mike Garza, Veterans Day is a day of appreciation. The Corpus Christi native spent six years with the U.S. Air Force and was deployed to Bagram, Afghanistan, in 2013. He plans to become a licensed drug dependency counselor. “To me, Veterans Day means appreciating those who did their time in the service and are out here trying their best to fit back into society, finding where they can put forth their skills and assets.”

SEPT 23rd — This morning staff found our beloved Chaplin to have been attacked and killed by a stray dog on the Del Mar College Heritage Campus.

Before everyone strolled into their 8 A.M classes, the remains of the well known and loved campus cat were being cleaned up.

He is not the first cat the be attacked by stray dogs, as another campus cat Panther was also attacked and killed last week.

Chaplin was known for loafing around, sneaking into the news room, and being a campus favorite amongst the cats that call Del Mar home.

As we mourn the loss of sweet Chaplin, share with us your favorite memories of pictures of him. Let’s remember him with love and fondness🤍

It is great to see Votebeat and Chad Lorenz receive recognition for their great work. It is even better to see Natalia Contreras Muilenburg's work used as an example of their thoughtful and meaningful reporting. I have no doubt that many examples of strong reporting were given for the article. I am just a bit bias in believing they picked the best one. I am very proud of my wife.

Happy last day of classes Vikings!

If you are feeling a little stressed about finals, make sure to stop by the Student Success Center today as the GO TEAM therapy dogs will be there from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The Student Success Center is located in the Venters business building in room 310.

Attention Vikings 🗣️

The Barth Learning Resource Center at Windward campus and Oso Creek campus will be hosting the Spring into Finals event on Wednesday May 1 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Students can enjoy snacks, refreshments, and stress-relief activities.

The Barth Learning Resources Center will also be hosting a rock painting event at the same time in the foyer.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) held a public meeting at the American Bank Center on Thursday, April 18 regarding plans to pass a new wastewater permit allowing for the discharge of water treatment waste starting at 34.3 million gallons per day.

The permit ties into the cities bigger plan to install a new Inner Harbor Water Desalination Plant to which the protestors in attendance also opposed.

Those for the installation saw it as an investment for the future of our community regarding impending drought concerns.

For the duration of the meeting around 100 people signed up to speak to TCEQ either for or against the permit and the installation of the plant.

This past weekend The Foghorn News 🗞️ traveled to San Marcos to attend the annual Texas Intercollegiate Press Association (TIPA) conference and compete in competitions across multiple media categories.

From these competitions and from previous publications the team brought home a total of 46 awards!

Congratulations Vikings and huge thanks to TIPA for making this all happen!

The DMC Kinesiology Department is now offering zumba classes to all employees.

The classes are held every Monday and Wednesday from 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. at the Heritage Campus Dance Studio.

The Unitarian Universalist Church held a vigil for 16-year-old Nex Benedict on Feb. 25.

Benedict was a non-binary student at Owasso High School in Oklahoma, who tragically passed on Feb. 8 after an altercation in the school bathroom.

DMC physical therapy major C**t Gillis suffered an injury that turned him down a new path in life.

Gillis is a former Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter who now coaches Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at the Texas Style Training Center.
