Two aircrew ejected from their jet before it crashed into the San Diego Bay on Feb. 12 and recovery operations are now underway to retrieve the EA-18G Growler. Commander, Naval Air Forces is conducting the investigation into the crash as teams from Navy Region Southwest, Naval Base Point Loma and others assist in the recovery.

A management advisory released by the Office of the Inspector General found that even as beaches were closed due to high levels of f***l bacteria from the Tijuana River sewage crisis, Navy SEAL candidates often trained in those same waters.

From February through September 2024, the amount of enterococcus bacteria in the water exceeded state safety levels in 146 of 192 tests (76%) conducted on samples retrieved from the beach north of NAB Coronado, and only 12 of 265 SEAL training events were relocated.
