Barricades have also been staged in the area of various streets/hills for deployment should conditions deteriorate further and require temporary road closures. Our City Team will continue to monitor this developing weather situation, and we recommend all citizens closely monitor as well and limit travel when possible.

TxDOT Waco District crews are preparing to mobilize this Sunday, January 5, to proactively conduct winter weather operations. Based on the current forecast, crews will start early brine application on all Waco District structures this Sunday.

The early brine applications can help slow initial icing on pavements. Structures such as bridges experience freezing temperatures first.

TxDOT’s Waco District personnel will continue to monitor the forecast and adjust operations as conditions warrant.

If travel is necessary during wintry weather, drivers should:

• Follow local forecasts; be prepared to delay or cancel travel plans during icy weather conditions.
• Buckle up
• Decrease speeds and drive to conditions
• Increase your following distance between vehicles
• Anticipate slick and hazardous driving conditions; be extra cautious on bridges, overpasses, ramps, turns, and shaded areas
• Do not use cruise control or lane assist
• Give TxDOT vehicles at least 200 feet of space during operations.
