*** UPDATE: FLOOD WARNING - * WHAT...Urban area and small stream flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
* WHERE...Portions of northern California, including the following county, Siskiyou and southwest Oregon, including the following counties, Coos, Curry, Douglas, Jackson and Josephine.
* WHEN...Until 700 AM PST Sunday.
* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. Expect many areas of slow moving or standing water.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 925 PM PST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain. Flooding
is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area.
Between 0.5 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen.
- Additional rainfall amounts of 2 to 5 inches are possible in
the warned area.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Grants Pass, Roseburg, Coos Bay, Sutherlin, Brookings,
Reedsport, Cave Junction, Port Orford, North Bend, Winston,
Coquille, Myrtle Creek, Bandon, Myrtle Point, Canyonville,
Lakeside, Riddle, Drain, Yoncalla and Glendale.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, and don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.
***HIGH WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 10 PM THIS EVENING TO 5 AM SUNDAY***
* WHAT...South winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts to 60 mph possible on the beaches, except gusts up to 75 mph at the headlands.
* WHERE...Curry County Coast and South Central Oregon Coast, including all beaches, capes and headlands from Reedsport to Brookings, and exposed portions of Highway 101.
* WHEN...From 10 PM this evening to 5 AM PST Sunday.
* IMPACTS...Damaging winds will blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
***HIGH SURF WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 AM SUNDAY***
* WHAT...Dangerously large breaking waves of 25 to 30 feet.
* WHERE...The beaches and shorelines of Curry, Coos, and Douglas counties.
* WHEN...Until 7 AM PST Sunday.
* IMPACTS...Extremely large breaking waves will create very hazardous conditions along beaches and area shorelines. Waves will inundate beaches and surge into normally dry areas. Infrastructure damage and significant beach erosion can be expected.
***FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM NOW THROUGH
SUNDAY AFTERNOON***
* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues. Expect up to 2 inches of rain over this weekend.
* WHERE...Portions of southwest Oregon and northern California. This includes all valleys west of the Cascades and the cities of Roseburg, Medford, Cave Junction, Grants Pass, Coos Bay, Gold Beach, Yreka and Mount Shasta City.
* WHEN...From now through Sunday afternoon.
* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris. Area creeks and streams are running high and could flood with more heavy rain.
