The Cookeville Fire Department (CFD) was designated one of the leading fire departments in Tennessee for training excellence by the Tennessee Fire Service and Codes Enforcement Academy (TFACA).

With an impressive total of 5,603 contact hours in one year, CFD ranks as the 4th in the state for most contact training hours in 2023-2024. This achievement underscores the department’s commitment to operational readiness.

Each year, fire departments throughout Tennessee participate in extensive training programs, either at the State Fire Academy or through on-site sessions authorized by the State. These training opportunities include a wide range of topics such as recruit instruction, driver training, fire prevention, investigation techniques, rescue operations, and leadership development.

TFACA recognizes departments based on their total training contact hours, classifying them into the “Elite Club” categories: Platinum (over 4000 hours), Gold (2000 to 4000 hours), and Silver (1000 to 2000 hours). CFD’s remarkable completion of 5,603 contact hours places it in the Platinum category, reflecting its exceptional dedication to professional development and public service.

PCSS Launches New Communication Platform To Encourage Stronger School-Home Connection

PUTNAM COUNTY, TENN. – The Putnam County School System is launching a new communications platform, ParentSquare, to reach and engage every parent, helping ensure all parents can actively participate in their children’s education.

Today, PCSS emailed log-in information to parents, making ParentSquare available on their computers or mobile devices.

By unifying multiple tools into one communications app and service, ParentSquare provides a seamless experience for parents and staff. Parents can keep track of news, activities, and events from all their children’s schools in one place.

“This has been in the works for months, and we are pleased we will launch this new communications platform at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year,” said Buddy Pearson, Communications and Marketing Supervisor. “This is a one-stop-shop for our educators, parents, and students when it comes to communicating with each other.”

PCSS hopes ParentSquare’s intuitive, two-way platform will foster greater communication and family involvement. With ParentSquare, parents can enjoy photos posted by teachers, fill out forms and permission slips, sign up for parent-teacher conferences, check grades and attendance, and much more. School staff and parents can engage in one-to-one and group messaging with real-time language translation.

The PCSS and each school website will also be converted to ParentSquare over the next few months.

You can register for a ParentSquare account at www.parentsquare.com.
