Kadlec Hospital has an active, 1,100 Union member Strike that started strong and loud, bright and early, at 0600am, this morning. Kadlec is the largest Tri-cities hospital. Many job categories are involved, except nurses, however, nurse assistants are members of the healthcare union. Many temporary workers have been contracted through a staffing agency for the planned 8-day Strike. (Kadlec is are part of the Providence health system.)

Over the weekend, the PNW experienced numerous lightning strikes. These strikes sparked several new wildfires, adding to the region's already high fire activity. While many fires were quickly contained, some holdover fires from these strikes may continue to pose a risk, especially with dry conditions and gusty winds forecasted in the coming days.

If you were wondering on a Sunday afternoon how many lightning strikes were in WA and OR... “Washington Wildfires & Emergency
Situations” posted that … in the past 24 hours, Oregon had 3,379 and Washington 3,302.
They state that there is still a chance to start seeing smoke from these strikes for the next couple of days. And, to stay vigilant, keeping your eyes peeled, and to report smoke, as soon as you see it!!

8:41pm Update: Electrical issue has been cleared.
7:42pm. A tornado touched down (per eye witness of funnel) northwest of Connell near 1620 Dilling Road. There is a report of lines down, debris, structure damage, and the road is blocked. (photo from Bruce Lierman)

Possible thunderstorm

Starting Saturday afternoon and continuing Saturday night, thunderstorms that will be capable of producing frequent cloud-to-ground lightning and erratic, gusty outflow winds will begin to impact the western portions of the OR/WA Lower Columbia Basin and the Kittitas Valley fire zones. This combination will promote conditions conducive to new fire starts and rapid fire spread for new and existing fires.

Thousands of Japanese beetles have been found in , , and counties. If you spot this pest, take a photo and report it at agr.wa.gov/beetles. They consume over 300 plants, but roses are their favorite snack. Please keep an eye out to help stop this invasive beetle!

A red flag warning has been issued for Monday for scattered thunderstorms containing only brief rain. Gusty outflow winds are possible near any thunderstorms.

Starting Friday, an excessive heat warning has been issued for Adams, Asotin, Chelan, Douglas, Garfield, Grant, Lincoln, Okanogan, Whitman, Benton, Columbia, Franklin, Kittitas, Klickitat, Walla Walla and Yakima Counties. Other nearby counties will still probably be very warm. Check your specific forecasts at weather.gov. It’s possible some areas will break record temperatures.
• Find air conditioning, if possible.
• Avoid strenuous activities.
• Watch for heat illness.
• Wear light clothing.
• Check on family members and neighbors.
• Drink plenty of fluids.
• Watch for heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.
• Never leave people or pets in a car.
