Greetings and God bless you Barber-Scotia College Family!

I am Dr. Tara Phelps-Jones, your Barber-Scotia College and NAABS Chaplain. I am humbled and honored to serve in these positions.

Since its founding, Barber-Scotia College has been committed to promoting Christian values, tradition and culture, as well as academic excellence. As Chaplain, it is my desire to help the institution flourish spiritually, socially and intellectually.

I look forward to coordinating spiritual events, worship services, monthly prayer calls, weekly devotionals, a Presidential prayer team, and much more.

November will be the start of our monthly "Back to the Chapel" Virtual Chapel services.

President Chris Rey Meets with US Congresswoman Alma Adams to discuss congressional support for Barber-Scotia College. The meeting was very productive and we are looking forward continuing to build our relationships with our elected officials. Barber-Scotia currently sits in the 12th Congressional District.

President Rey recently met with Jake Sullivan, National Security Advisor to President Biden and other HBCU Presidents at the White House to discuss recruitment, efforts to diversify our national security workforce, strategies to help keep college campuses safe and deepen partnerships across the U.S. Government.

Barber-Scotia is committed to making sure our current and future students have career options upon graduation.

President Chris Rey stands with fellow HBCU Presidents and the President of the United States Joe Biden during the National HBCU Week Conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

For more than 180 years, HBCUs have been advancing intergenerational economic mobility for Black families and communities, developing vital academic research, and making our Nation more prosperous and equitable.

Despite representing only 3% of colleges and universities, HBCUs play an outsized role to support the economic mobility of African Americans, producing 40 percent of all Black engineers, 50 percent of all Black teachers, 70 percent of all Black doctors and dentists, 80 percent of all Black judges, and the first woman and Black Vice President of the United States.

When they ask do HBCU’s still matter, look them straight in their eyes and let them know they SURE DO!

📢 Announcing 📢

Barber-Scotia College is experiencing its first major renovation on one of our buildings in over 20 years. In conjunction with the HBCU Give Back Grant the Sage Library is going through a much needed reseal. Water damage has impacted the building and the procession of resealing the building is underway.

These improvements will allow our students and community to enjoy our library and the historic museum being curated inside. Continue to watch us RISE.
