TERRELL POLICE OFFICER KILLED ON DUTY

per FOX 4

A Terrell police officer was shot and killed while on duty late Sunday night in a motel parking lot.

According to the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office, Officer Jacob Candanoza, 28, was shot around 11 p.m. in the parking lot of the Super 8 Motel on the 1600 block of TX-34 South, near Interstate 20.

Police said Candanoza encountered a man in a pickup truck in the parking lot, where a struggle ensued.

The suspect shot Candanoza during the altercation and fled the scene in a gray Chevrolet Colorado pickup with Mississippi license plates, heading east on I-20.

Candanoza was taken to a hospital in Forney where he died from his injuries.

Deputies spotted the truck near the Kaufman and Van Zandt County line, starting a chase. The suspect eventually crashed the vehicle and fled on foot into a wooded area. He was taken into custody.

At a press conference held early Monday at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Forney, Terrell Police Chief described Candanoza as a husband and father of a young child.

PRAYERS FOR HIS FAMILY AND HIS DEPARTMENT 🙏

Beloved K-9 Officer Max to Be Honored After Passing Following Medical Evaluation

It is with great sadness that the Terrell Police Department shares the loss of one of its most dedicated and courageous members, K-9 Officer Max. After a recent decline in health, Max underwent extensive medical evaluations at the Texas A&M Veterinary Center in College Station. Unfortunately, tests revealed a terminal condition, and the difficult decision was made to allow Max to pass peacefully.

Max was not just a K-9 officer; he was a loyal partner to his handler, Officer Anders, and a vital member of the police force. Known for his unwavering dedication, Max played a key role in numerous operations, serving as a symbol of bravery and commitment to the community.

A public memorial to honor K-9 Officer Max is being planned for later this week, giving the community a chance to come together and celebrate his life. Details about the memorial will be announced soon.

We extend our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Officer Anders, the police department, and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with Max. The loss of such a devoted partner is immeasurable, but the strength and unity of our community will carry us through.

🚨 Traffic Stop Leads to Significant Drug Seizure 🚨

On patrol, Cpl. Fisher with the Hopkins County Sheriff's Office observed a Chevrolet pickup towing a trailer with no registration or working lights. The vehicle was stopped in the Walmart parking lot off Broadway Street.

During the stop, suspicious movements inside the vehicle prompted Cpl. Fisher to deploy a certified narcotics K-9, which alerted to the presence of drugs. A subsequent search revealed:
🔹 Glass pipes
🔹 A glass vial containing methamphetamine
🔹 Two baggies with methamphetamine
🔹 A tourniquet

Additionally, Brittany Bryner, the passenger, removed a baggie containing methamphetamine from her clothing, admitting ownership along with the driver, Micah Cline.

🚔 Seized:

0.553 grams of methamphetamine from the vehicle
12 grams from Bryner’s possession

Both the driver, Micah Cline & the Passenger Brittany Bryner were transported to Hopkins County Jail and face charges related to possession of controlled substances.

🔒 A job well done by Hopkins County Deputies and K-9 team!
