WINTER STORM WEATHER AWARE
Tracking the winter storm with WRBL News 3's First Alert Weather Team
RADAR UPDATE 2:00 PM ET: Snow showers picking up intensity across Columbus and points southward. Northern edge still seeing flurries and eventually overcomes the dry layer. Snowfall will last through this evening.
8:26 AM EST
While most of this is likely not making it to the surface, I can't rule out a few flurries or very light snow!
If you've seen any let us know!!
Most of this morning will remain cold, cloudy and breezy, we may sneak out a few flurries but the best chance for snow will be this afternoon into this evening. Most of the area will see between 1-3 inches of snow with areas south of Columbus seeing locally higher amounts. While it may look like areas north of Columbus miss out, don't be surprised if we see a light jog north in snow coverage and even totals so be prepared.
Anything that falls will quickly stick as temperatures remain just at or below freezing, travel will be hazardous this evening/Wednesday AM
5:47 AM EST
Radar trying to pick up on a few flurries/snow showers to our west, due to the dry air mass most of this may not reach the surface.
The readings will barley climb above freezing, with wind chill values dipping as low as single digits 0-4° Wednesday. Wind chills continue through Saturday.
Wednesday the sky will clear, however, the accumulative snow will create travel issues and evergreen trees that collect snow on the branches will weigh down and possibly snap limbs or topple trees, along with the wind. Clearly this could lead to power issues and outlying areas, and those with wells may be an issue.
Winter Storm Warning (Tuesday): The forecast will begin around 11AM/10CT with light snow flurries, then accumulations begin farther south and then slowly lifting northward. This event will start around 11am ET and ending all south and east of Columbus around 8pm ET.
WINTER STORM: Tuesday's winter storm continues to show snow showers moving into the region Tuesday afternoon; however, the system will have to overcome a lot of dry air. Snow totals continue to drop on model guidance with the highest totals south and southeast of Columbus.
TUESDAY'S TIMELINE: The latest timing for Tuesday's system still have snow beginning by midday. Heavier snow showers will move into the area by early afternoon, and clear out by midnight. The timing of this forecast is still fluid, but we will continue to keep you updated.
Good morning! The rain has moved out and the colder air is set to return. Right now, temps are in the mid to upper 50s, but they are expected to drop throughout the day, with low to mid 40s by this afternoon, and then, they really drop when the sun sets this evening. Monday morning lows will be in the low 20s, and couple that with winds of 10+ mph, wind chills will be down in the teens and even single digits in spots. Coming up at 8am, we'll have the latest on the cold and the wintry weather expected on Tuesday.
