Columbus, Ohio, is home to one of the fastest-growing Cameroonian communities in the United States, with the sons and daughters of M’Muock village playing a key role in this vibrant growth. Known for their strong sense of unity, hard work, and love for social engagement, M’Muock youths have found a unique way to strengthen their bond - football.
A shining example of their commitment is the M’Muock Youth Football Club, a team that has become a pillar of community football in Columbus. This year, they are set to make their mark at the Midwest Veterans Tournament (MWVT), an event that brings together some of the finest community teams in the region.

Not only will they play host to the National Veterans Tournament (NVT) in August, but they will also receive a dozen teams for the regional Midwest Veterans Tournament in May. A busy year, isn’t it? The Eritrean community in the Washington D.C. area came together to welcome home Miss Eritrea Snit Tewoldemedhin, a groundbreaking beauty queen who made history as the first Miss Eritrea to compete in the prestigious Miss Universe pageant.

Snit's journey to the Miss Universe stage began with her winning the Miss Eritrea online and virtual competition. This November, she represented her country in the Miss Universe competition held in Mexico City, Mexico, proudly flying the Eritrean flag on the global stage.

In addition to her historic Miss Universe appearance, Snit was also crowned Miss Africa in 2023, further solidifying her position as a leading ambassador for Eritrea and the African continent. A talented and accomplished individual, Snit holds a degree in neuroscience from George Mason University, with a primary focus on neuropsychological testing and psychology.

Her academic achievements and beauty pageant success make her a role model for young Eritreans and Africans worldwide. The Eritrean community in Washington, D.C., gathered to celebrate Snit's achievements and welcome her home. The event was a testament to the community's pride and admiration for Snit's accomplishments and enthusiasm for her future endeavors.

As Snit continues to inspire and empower her community, her legacy as a trailblazing beauty queen and academic achiever will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on Eritreans and Africans worldwide.

African countries have been making their presence known in various international beauty pageants, and this year's Miss Universe competition was no exception. African contestants took home several notable titles and placements in a strong showing.

Miss Nigeria Chidimma Adetshina was the first runner-up and won the Miss Universe Africa and Oceania crown. Emilia, representing Chile with African roots, won the People's Choice Award. Other African contestants who made it to the Top 30 include Nelma Ferreira from Angola, Ilda Amani from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Logina Salah from Egypt.

This year's competition was historic for the Middle East and Africa region, with several contestants making their debut and achieving notable placements. This demonstrates the growing diversity and representation in the beauty pageant world. African countries continue to impact and showcase their beauty and talent globally substantially.
