Have you ever heard of Oroblancos? They’re a sweeter cousin of grapefruit with only a hint of tartness, making them an excellent option for kids who might not enjoy the tart taste of traditional grapefruit. If your district follows our FFVP calendar recommendations, you can look forward to seeing Oroblancos in your classroom this January! We’d love to hear what you and your students think of them!

Where are you storing your leafy greens? It's suggested to keep them in a cool, humid spot of your kitchen to help keep them fresh and crisp and prevent wilting. Such a place may be your refrigerator's crisper drawer or in a container lined with damp paper towels.

1️⃣ Wash & Dry: Rinse your greens in cold water, then pat dry with a paper towel or use a salad spinner.

2️⃣ Store Smart: Wrap them in a dry paper towel and place them in a perforated plastic bag or container. Keep them in the crisper drawer of your fridge.

3️⃣ Keep an Eye: Check for any wilting leaves and remove them to keep the rest fresh.

🌡️ Cool Temperatures: Slows down respiration and enzymatic activity, which extends their shelf life.
💧 High Humidity: Prevents the greens from losing moisture, which can lead to drying out and wilting.

Do you know what PPO means?🤔

Polyphenol oxidase (PPO) is the enzyme responsible for the browning that occurs when the fruit's enzymes mix with oxygen in the air after cutting. Although this "enzymatic browning" is perfectly natural and safe for consumption, your produce may not look or taste as good! Luckily, there are several steps you can take to prevent it!

Cohort 1 of our SnackTime Explorer's program just ended, and we are thrilled with the results our Lead and Site teachers have experienced in their classrooms. The overwhelming response from our teachers indicates that kids have become more open to trying fruits and vegetables, and encouraging their peers to, after implementing the lessons around their FFVP deliveries.

We are now accepting applications for Cohort 2 of the program! If you want to learn more about our SnackTime Explorer's program, visit this link in our bio.
