"Enkutatash" THE ETHIOPIAN NEW YEAR CELEBRATION!!

MUSIC PROVIDED BY BLUE NILE RADIO

Don’t miss this event! Enkutatash Columbus is Saturday, Sept. 14 from 9am-4pm.

This unique and engaging event is a fun filled day of celebration, multicultural awareness and community building.

The event will begin with the renowned Ethiopian Historian who will present about the mystery of the 13th month of the ancient Ethiopian calendar, ritual and ceremony of the new year and followed by the traditional Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony. Also the event will include outdoor children’s games sponsored by The YMCA of Central Ohio and inflatables from the Columbus Crew. Don’t miss the multicultural fashion show, youth choir recital, dancing, and conclude with a drumming performance by Tony West and the Imani Dancers.

The event is a great opportunity to discover and engage with the vibrancy of the Columbus immigrant community at large.

A big “thank you” to The Greater Columbus Arts Council, Thirty-One Gifts, The Columbus Crew, The YMCA of Central Ohio, The Buckeye Ranch and WBNS-10TV for sponsoring our event. We would also like to thank our emcee Angela An, Keynote Speaker African Historian, Ato Shifferaw Enkubahire, Mayor of Whitehall, Kim Maggard and Jennifer Johnson, State Refugee Coordinator.

Blue Nile Radio (BNR) celebrates its 7 Year Anniversary!!!! BNR began streaming, officially, on June 16, 2006!

The name Blue Nile, was chosen because the Nile River, is the longest river on earth and it is extremely important waterway for commerce and trade in Afrika! One of the two principal headwaters of the Nile River is the Blue Nile.

The date June 16, is significant because it is the date of the famous Soweto Uprising which occured in 1976. It was Afrikan youth in Soweto, Azania (S. Afrika) who rose up against the racist apartheid government. Our Founder Shabaka Ture visited Soweto in 2008.
