ESPN’s College GameDay visited Columbia for the first time in 10 years on Sept. 14, drawing hundreds of students to camp out at Gamecock Park to attempt to earn a spot in the coveted “pit.”

But as the night progressed, students said the situation became more unsafe. The Daily Gamecock’s Editor-in-Chief Kate Robins witnessed as tight crowds formed and people rushed the gates.
