Shuttering Thru Life - Travis Batton

Shuttering Thru Life - Travis Batton Living Life One Frame at a Time! Hello! Thank you for taking the time to visit my site. This love affair has evolved over time. I’m a traditional kind of guy.

I wish I could say that I have been passionately involved in photography since I was a kid, but my love affair with photography occurred a little later in life. While I have taken pictures most of my life, I never really put much thought into them. I started out worrying about what gear to use and how this name brand compared to that name brand. I believe I was more worried about the gear than kno

wing how to make a proper exposure. As my knowledge grew, I began to figure out that the fundamentals of photography applied to all cameras regardless of the name on the strap. I also realized that I did not need all the extra features that are constantly pushed on the consumer to get you to buy a particular camera. Furthermore, I realized that the camera was just a tool and my ability to use this tool is really what makes the difference. Thus, I really love traditional photography. I love it so much that I started shooting film. Little did I know, shooting film would transform my entire approach to photography. Not only has film taught me more about photography, it has slowed me down. I am more engaged and I tend to shoot more with a purpose. The icing on the cake is that the look of film adds character and depth to each image that just can’t be duplicated by the digital medium. Hence, you will find more and more film images on my site. I tend to gravitate toward landscapes, cityscapes and the urban scene. I really love street photography in the traditional sense of candid moments that tell the story of the human condition. This is not to say that I won’t pass up a nice sunset or the local wildlife. I would really appreciate any comments or thoughts on my photographs and blog posts. I should add that my wife is writer and occasionally will post her insights as well. So thanks again for stopping by and please return as I am always updating my portfolio and blogging about my photography endeavors.

ANTI-TAIL

In this comet shot, you can see a hint of the anti-tail sticking out in the opposite direction of its normal tail along with some plasma and dust. Here’s an explanation of the anti-tail: “This secondary tail appears to protrude forward from the comet's nucleus in the opposite direction of the “normal” tail. An anti-tail is not a physically separate feature, but a perspective effect created when the comet's tail arcs back behind itself from our point of view.” Check out my timelapse video of the comet in my previous post if you haven't seen it.

COMET TSUCHINSHAN-ATLAS

It's been fun chasing this comet. Over the last several nights, it has become increasingly harder to see with the naked eye, but it hasn't escaped the eye of the camera just yet. I hope you enjoy this timelapse video.

FLEETING VIEWS

I checked out the comet last night. It was cloudy at the horizon, but I was able to catch some fleeting glimpses of Comet Tsuchinshan-Atlas (C/2023-A3). This is a very rare comet. It was last visible from Earth 80,000 years ago. I believe it is safe to say, we won't be seeing this one again after it's gone. I was a bit taken back when it became visible for a few seconds to the naked eye. It had a large presence in the sky with its long tail. I may venture out this evening to try again if the sky is clear. If you haven't seen it, check it out! It's getting higher in the evening sky each night, but its visible magnitude is fading.

Wounded Warrior Project 2024

I had a blast hanging out with the Wounded Warriors today! I always love meeting these brave men and women, and I love learning about their lives and backgrounds. Hearing their stories can be sobering, and their stories can put things in perspective. I meet at least one photographer each year. This year a soldier told me how photography helped him through his PTSD. He said it all started when he took a picture of a leaf. It's amazing how something so simple can be so profound. THANK YOU to all the brave men and women who have served our country! I recorded some video. If things turn out, stay tuned for a short film.

ANALOG SLIDE SHOW 14 (Nashville Street w/ TRI-X 400)

His another one from the archives. Reminiscing about shooting this roll has inspired me to plan another street session on film. I believe this time, I am going to shoot color film. Probably some Gold 200 or the “new” Fuji 200. I believe the latter is the same as the former. Stay tuned for some new film images. Also, this set of pictures has two Hollywood actresses. You can read my blog post about my interaction with them here: https://www.shutteringthrulife.com/my-first-modeling-shoot/

RELEASE THE HOUNDS

I was asked to shoot the Release the Hounds Music Festival in Bon Aqua, Tennessee. This was the first time I’ve heard about this festival. It is held at the Storytellers Hideaway Farm and Museum. Here’s a description of what Release the Hounds is all about.

“Release The Hounds is a 501(c)(3) headquartered in Bon Aqua, Tennessee. At Release The Hounds our mission is to help animals live their best lives. Our approach to helping animals live their best lives is by improving overall animal welfare in the community. We focus on donating funds and much needed items to local animal welfare organizations, offering vet bill grants to qualified individuals to help fill the gap for planned veterinary procedures, and we sponsor fence builds for off leash dog parks.” - Adkins Entertainment

This is a really great cause! I am willing to bet that most of you, including myself, think of our pets as family members. They make our lives so much richer and we will do everything possible to insure their well being.

You should check this out next year and bring your fur babies. If you like animals, good food, great entertainment and a family atmosphere, the Release the Hounds Music Festival is a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. I hope you enjoy the pictures.
