Here’s a throwback to Fourth of July past. On a rainy 4th of July, I grabbed my OM-1 and my Mamiya 645 1000s and captured some images from celebrations in Columbia and Franklin. Films used were Kodak Ektar 100 and Kodak Portra 400. Some of these pictures were featured in an online magazine in England. AN EVENING ON THE TOWN
I finally finished my latest Nashville video project. An evening on the town was actually several evenings on the town. I got lucky with a span of sunny evenings which kept my day footage looking the same as if it was all filmed on the same day. I had a fun time each night. I met some characters as well as some new contacts. I had a police officer come up to me on my second night on Broadway and ask me what I was doing. He had recognized me from the night before. I explained my project and he thought it was cool. I am already jotting down ideas for my next Nashville project, so stay tuned.

I finally shot the roll of Kodak Ektar 100 that has been sitting in my Mamiya since 2016. The lab told me that film can hold up well for up to 10 years if stored properly. With the results, I would agree. However, I did have some moisture damage on the film, probably from condensation. Overall, the Ektar images were not too bad. The moisture damage is apparent on most of the shots. The biggest take away is that there were no light leaks. I replaced the seals 8 years ago and they are still holding up. That helped my decision to shoot medium format at the Sundrop Festival in Pulaski last weekend. I shot 5 rolls of Kodak Gold 200. I hope to have those scans back next week.
The other film in this slideshow was shot with my OM -1 SLR. It’s a “new” Fuji film labeled Fuji 200. Some say it is just Kodak Gold 200 repackaged. There’s strong evidence backing this assertion. I think I like this film. It’s consumer grade which is cheaper than professional grade. Shooting film is even more expensive these days, so it’s good to save money where you can. I’ll be shooting more rolls of Fuji 200 to get a better feel for it, so stay tuned. I hope you enjoy the slideshow!
