👉Our words matter. Proverbs 18:21 says “death and life are in the power of the tongue..."
↕️There are consequences for our words...they will either build up or tear down.
⚠️As Christ-followers, it's important for us to understand this power doesn’t just apply to the words we speak, but also to the words we THINK!
👑King David wrote in Psalms 19:14 "Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer."
🌞How much better would our relationships and lives be if we spoke and thought on words with this Psalm 19:14 perspective?
🛑We must stop long enough to notice the thoughts we're having about who we are and the circumstances of our life as they'll guide our choices and affect us in every facet of our life:
• Relationships with others
• Mental health
• Mood and emotions
• Physical health: Proverbs 17:22 says "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones." (Our attitude impacts our body on a cellular level increasing calm and healing or creating stressful impacts...the mind/body connection is real!)
• Most importantly, our spiritual health, testimony and CHRISTIAN WALK can be blessed or damaged by what we think!
✝️Jesus told us in Mark 7:21-23 “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.”
📖Proverbs 4:23 states: "Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life."
⚔️Our mind is a spiritual battlefield! We first discern where are thoughts are coming from and shift them to a Godly place and perspective. Our thoughts can come from:
1. Our flesh---self-focused, worldly, need for control
2. The Holy spirit---guidance, conviction, correction
3. The enemy---shaming, discouraging, deceiving
❤️🩹We will also have cues in our body, mood and attitude that our spirit is not right alerting us to go to God for help! 2 Corinthians 10:5 says “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.
🚨We must be vigilant to ensure our inner words and thoughts remain aligned with what is good and righteous in God’s eyes…not our own.
🙌Praise God as He gave us His power and Word to overcome negative, unhelpful thinking patterns by testing them against His Word to ensure we're thinking in a way that is pleasing to Him and aligns with spiritual truths.
STEP ONE:
🔍📋Evaluate your thoughts daily by taking them through the Philippians 4:8 "thought test". Philippians 4:8 gives us a standard of how we should think that will glorify God and allow us to live victoriously: "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." Simply ask yourself "would this thought be considered to be TRUE, HONEST, JUST, PURE, LOVELY and OF GOOD REPORT in the eyes of the Lord and per His Word"?
STEP TWO:
✅Shift your thoughts to a Biblical perspective and dwell only on those that pass the thought test!
STEP THREE:
🕊️Notice the peace you've received from the Lord when your thoughts are in line with His! Philippians 4:9 confirms this gift stating "Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you."
