👉With Labor Day having recently come and gone, I wonder how many people who took time off for the holiday could say almost a week later that they feel refreshed, restored and rejuvenated in their body, mind and soul?
🔄We are so used to living on autopilot, multi-tasking day-end and day-out that truth be told, most of us don't even realize how tired we truly are or know how to relax and simply just be in the present moment.
🚨Chronic busyness and constant availability and connectivity has become the norm; however, we weren't created for this pace, and the consequences are devastating!
🙌🏻 The good news is that the Lord offers us rest through Him if only we seek and accept His help.
“Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him…” Psalm 37:7

👉Our words matter. Proverbs 18:21 says “death and life are in the power of the tongue..."
↕️There are consequences for our words...they will either build up or tear down.
⚠️As Christ-followers, it's important for us to understand this power doesn’t just apply to the words we speak, but also to the words we THINK!
👑King David wrote in Psalms 19:14 "Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer."
🌞How much better would our relationships and lives be if we spoke and thought on words with this Psalm 19:14 perspective?
🛑We must stop long enough to notice the thoughts we're having about who we are and the circumstances of our life as they'll guide our choices and affect us in every facet of our life:
• Relationships with others
• Mental health
• Mood and emotions
• Physical health: Proverbs 17:22 says "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones." (Our attitude impacts our body on a cellular level increasing calm and healing or creating stressful impacts...the mind/body connection is real!)
• Most importantly, our spiritual health, testimony and CHRISTIAN WALK can be blessed or damaged by what we think!

✝️Jesus told us in Mark 7:21-23 “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.”
📖Proverbs 4:23 states: "Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life."
⚔️Our mind is a spiritual battlefield! We first discern where are thoughts are coming from and shift them to a Godly place and perspective. Our thoughts can come from:
1. Our flesh---self-focused, worldly, need for control
2. The Holy spirit---guidance, conviction, correction
3. The enemy---shaming, discouraging, deceiving

❤️‍🩹We will also have cues in our body, mood and attitude that our spirit is not right alerting us to go to God for help! 2 Corinthians 10:5 says “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.
🚨We must be vigilant to ensure our inner words and thoughts remain aligned with what is good and righteous in God’s eyes…not our own.

🙌Praise God as He gave us His power and Word to overcome negative, unhelpful thinking patterns by testing them against His Word to ensure we're thinking in a way that is pleasing to Him and aligns with spiritual truths.

STEP ONE:
🔍📋Evaluate your thoughts daily by taking them through the Philippians 4:8 "thought test". Philippians 4:8 gives us a standard of how we should think that will glorify God and allow us to live victoriously: "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." Simply ask yourself "would this thought be considered to be TRUE, HONEST, JUST, PURE, LOVELY and OF GOOD REPORT in the eyes of the Lord and per His Word"?

STEP TWO:
✅Shift your thoughts to a Biblical perspective and dwell only on those that pass the thought test!

STEP THREE:
🕊️Notice the peace you've received from the Lord when your thoughts are in line with His! Philippians 4:9 confirms this gift stating "Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you."

📝Research shows that humility improves our mental health; however, we can't turn on the tv, view social media or get through a day in June without seeing the rainbow emblazoned word PRIDE posted everywhere as something to revel in and celebrate.
💡Humility is not a character trait celebrated in our current "me, me, me" culture, but research shows it may deserve more attention as this personal quality has been found to have positive impacts on one's perceived happiness and psychological well-being.
🌈While this post is not to discuss or debate the pride movement in relation to sexuality or self-identity, its purpose is to zero-in on how a Christian should view both pride and humility from a Biblical perspective concerning psychological and spiritual well-being.

˗ˏˋ ✞ ˎˊ˗ God warns us throughout the Bible to avoid pride.
˗ˏˋ ✞ ˎˊ˗ Jesus was the perfect example of humility.
˗ˏˋ ✞ ˎˊ˗ Christ-followers strive to be humble not prideful.

🧠Anxiety disorders are the most prevalent mental health diagnoses world-wide.
🔎Researchers have found a link between anxiety and self-preoccupation.
→Folks who overanalyze their thoughts, feelings, past actions or perceived status or flaws will experience a cycle of excessive worry, self-doubt and fear that can become overwhelming.
→When we rely on the pride of own accomplishments, self-identity or abilities to bring us peace and joy, what happens to our sense of self when we eventually fail?
→While it's normal and healthy to feel a sense of pride, reveling in pride distances us from God while simultaneously thrusting us in a state of self-focus and self-reliance where the pain of our inevitable psychological shortcomings can be magnified.
→ Folks who actively shift their focus off of self and humble themselves before God leaning on His promises and truth, can break the negative cycles of self-preoccupation and anxiety to attain God's full blessings and perfect peace.

Proverbs 16:18 states "Pride goeth before destruction, And an haughty spirit before a fall." We are better served to heed God's warnings in relation to pride and to practice humility in order to be at our best psychologically but most importantly, in the sight of our Lord.

READ & REFLECT:
📖 Isaiah 26:3: "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee."
📖James 4:6 ... “But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.”
📖 1 Peter 5:6: "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time..."

Christians are called to be different. As a child of God, we are given the gifts of His grace, mercy, peace and power! There may be times when life may not be "good" but even in difficult circumstances, all can be well with our soul. We should respond to life's obstacles with the supernatural peace and joy in Christ that's been instilled within us by the Holy Spirit. When we address our soul and spiritual needs and choose to walk by faith, we not only FEEL better mentally but we will BE better and will DO better! Let your soul and faith SHINE in this dark world no matter the circumstances of your life.

SOUL SHINE TIPS:🌟 ˗ˏˋ ✞ ˎˊ˗🌟
🗣Our words matter. They can build us up or tear us down. Speak kindly and compassionately to yourself and others. Proverbs 18:21 "Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof."
🕊️Godly hope and optimism is a choice that effects our mood and motivation. Psalm 71:14 "But I will hope continually, And will yet praise thee more and more."
🌞Gratitude is the antithesis of anxiety which leads to a "GLAD-itude". Count your blessings and choose to dwell on the good not on the "should haves" of the past or "what ifs" of the future. In the present moment of the here and now point out all the ways you're blessed and reasons to be GLAD! Psalms 118:24 "This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it"
🌱Jesus said He is the bread of life. Our personal relationship with Him is the ultimate source of spiritual nourishment from here to eternity! Isaiah told us years before, with God, we not only are nourished but will flourish physically, mentally and spiritually. Isaiah 58:11 “And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.”
👑Jesus is our almighty, powerful King of kings and Lord of lords! We are empowered by the Holy Spirit when we trust and believe God can and will move mountains in our life according to His will. Expect His best and thank Him for His provision. Ephesians 3:20 "Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us. "
