Hey Parents!
We want to be more connected with you! You are always welcome to stop by and see what is going on on Wednesdays.
We also want to join with you in discipling your students. With that in mind, here is the series we are currently in, and some questions you can ask your students about our first 2 messages:
“New: Discovering Lessons of New Life and Forgiveness in the Gospel of John”
In week one, we covered the story of Nicodemus visiting Jesus under the cover of darkness (John 3). Jesus tells him two important things. First, that you must be reborn “of water and Spirit”. Secondly, that we must love the light more than darkness.
In week two, we talked about Jesus’ interaction with the woman at the well (John 4). This woman tried to hide her sins and disappointment from God. But, as our main point said, “God Already Knows”. God knows us, and loves us. There is no need to hide our brokenness and sin, because God already knows and wants to help us through it.
Our action step for this series is taking a piece of special paper and writing out something that is getting in the way of us loving or following God better. This paper is then placed into a bowl of water, where it quickly dissolves. This represents giving up our own darkness and being reborn of water and Spirit. It is a great physical representation of choosing to follow Jesus!
Here are some great questions you can ask your students during this series:
- What did you hear at youth group this week? What stood out to you and why?
- Which people in the Bible story did you identify with and why?
- Will you share with me what you wrote down on your piece of paper? What did you choose to give to God to follow Him better?
- How can I help you with your goal?
We’re praying for you! Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you.
- Cody
Family Camp Day One has been so much fun!! The rain didn’t stop the party! We dove right into talking about our chosenness & how God created each of us with a specific purpose in our families & lives. Can’t wait to see what day two holds!
FAMILY CAMP!!! We are so excited to see our CF families fill this space so soon! Pray with us this week that Holy Spirit would speak over us, that we would have open ears to God’s word, & that we would develop deeper connections with one another. Here we go!!!
Day 2 was full & so fun!! We sorted donated items in the Dream Center’s warehouse, led Kids Jam, & prayed over the neighborhood we were serving in! Kids Jam was the highlight & it was neat to see some of the same kids we worked with last year.
WE ARE SO STOKED TO KICK OFF THE SEMESTER TOMORROW - 1.10.24 - AT 6:30!!! We're full sending into a new series on the Book of Mark. Want to plan ahead? Read chapter 1 before youth group tomorrow & look up the Greek word 'kardia'. We can't wait to see you!!!
What was your favorite round? Ours was definitely not the leaders getting wrecked by the students 🤣
There are no words to explain yesterday…
Yesterday we split into groups & went to a few homeless camps to handout lunch. The Dream Center has connections with people in the camps, so we were able to see what their lives are like. Each group has their own stories to tell about it. It was unlike anything we’ve done on a mission trip so far.
We also had our last Kids Jam! 😭 We had water balloons & paper airplane contests & allllll the hugs. We will miss these kids!
We have one final project today then we head home! Finishing with 1000%!!! 💪🏼
Day 2 was incredible! We participated in The Dream Center’s Adopt-A-Block program in the morning. We took snack bags to homes in a low-income apartment complex & asked how we could pray for people. People were eager to share pieces of their stories with us & let us pray with them. It was powerful!
We also had another day of Kids Jam! It was hoooot so we relied on water guns to keep us cool. We rounded out the day with games & debriefing.
“I saw God today through all the people that let us pray with them and shared their stories.”
DAY ONE HAS BEEN SO FUN! We safely arrived at the Dream Center around noon & did a quick orientation before heading out to our first Kids Jam! We’ve learned so much already.
During debrief time we shared ways we saw God today or things we learned about the area we’re in. One of the biggest things we noticed is how excited the kids are to read the Bible! “One girl showed up and said I STARTED READING MY BIBLE AND BROUGHT IT WITH ME!!” 😍
Ways to pray: our street outreach tomorrow, hydration, a gentle breeze to keep us cool, & honest conversations that teach us more about our own relationships with the Lord
It’s our last day in San Carlos! Yesterday was freezing cold (we banned the word ‘hot’ 🤣), lots of hard work finishing up the shed frame/house painting, & a really sweet kids Bible club! We drank gallons of water, ate traditional fry bread & beans, and definitely didn’t complain about the *cold* weather. 🫣We cried about saying goodbye today, prayed for the reservation dogs, & watched the stars before bed. Pray for our last day: that we would stay cool and hydrated, that our focus would continue to be an outpouring of Jesus, & that the scorpions would leave Alena alone! A favorite debrief quote: “you don’t realize how bad others have it until you experience it with them. Like some of these houses only get running water a few hours a day. That’s a necessity. How do we fix it?”Grateful for you, San Carlos 🫶🏼
