The name that is named is not the eternal name.

If you haven't yet read the Daodejing, you should. It isn't perfectly straight forward, while also being perfectly straight forward (IYKYK). It takes reflection to comprehend what is being laid out for all of us, but nothing worth understanding isn't worth fighting yourself over.

This piece was made in comtemplation of the Dao, and therefore is not the Dao. It is me sharing something beautiful with all of you. Enjoy!!

This one played out from the heart strings. Like the way you feel in the seconds between when you first wake, and when you try to recall what you had just been seeing behind closed eyes. Or when a smell invokes a feeling you didn't know you had forgotten, but can't remember when you felt that way. What is life? Enjoy.

When I was very young, bedtime often left me struggling to fall asleep. One bad habit I developed was to flip over onto my belly and rest both my closed eyes on my balled up fists. If I stayed like that long enough I would start to see strange light patterns emerge in oscillating waves - shapes and colors I would remain like this until I passed out completely unaware of the time passing by. This piece shares some of what I would see in fleeting flashes to my delight. Enjoy!

Did you ever think what it might look like if your eyes could see a freeze frame picture of the billions of electromagnetic waves being broadcast all over the skies of the world and even into space from all our tech? When was the last time you checked how many wifi routers you can casually detect at any time on your phone almost anywhere humans are found?

So this piece is not that picture I asked if you had imagined. This is just a tribute.

"I'll grow on you"

Forgive me, for I have punned.

This represents the "eye" of an artist. Said eye is commonly thought of as what helps guide a creator to manifesting what they wish to express. It does.
But that eye is also always looking out into the world and taking in/ recording everything that connects to the artist as they go their daily life.

It's been watching since the start, with roots that run deep inside the artist, to their first love, their fears, their secrets, their pain and more. It sees the stories unfolding around them, it remembers how cold the air was as they went for a long walk to nowhere in particular the after feeling the first sting of betrayal.

This is how I see my own such eye if it manifested in color and shape. What is your like? Enjoy!

"The seeds of life"

Scientists have been able to detect the basic building blocks of life in samples they've taken through extraordinary means from the asteroids that traverse our solar system. It is reasonable to surmise that such elements are present all throughout the galaxy and even the universe.
It is a slippery slope to ask the question where they may have originated from, so for now: Whatever is, is.
Yet it's interesting to ask the question in our imagination about the origin of these "seeds of life". It is a question that can lead to many doorways both new and ancient. This piece symbolizes that deep mystery. Enjoy!

"Ambitions"

This piece provides a visual of unfettered and unchecked human ambition.
Ambition in life is important and necessary; however, when ambitions are pursued regardless of how they affect others (such making sacrifices out of what was never theirs to give) they start spiraling out of control. The higher the ambition and the bigger the net the greater the cost and the more who will pay. Worst in such cases, when and if the goal line is reached then produces no reward. Only another goal line even further ahead.
No tree, with roots that drink corruption, will provide fruit worth consuming.

This piece imagines what sights/events might have been witnessed by a small boat left to drift out on the water (with of course noone there to witness them)
It is symbolic of all those parts of our lives we loved or were special to us, that we left behind us as we navigated all the twists and turns the years have brought us.
That's the "thing" about life: Sooner or later, everyone and everything will leave. Treasure the time, places, parts, experiences and people you have around you right now. Days might seem countless, but I assure you - they are not. Enjoy!

Have any of you given much thought to how many stories from wild to tame, crazy to lame there are going on around you in people's lives just in the surrounding neighborhoods? Countless. And what about all the stories around the country or the world? Mind boggling just within one day's time.
So many stories, that if they were all captured from a single day somehow, it would take far more than your lifetime to read them all. When one considers that you will never know the stories of the lives of the vast majority of humanity, that no one will and no one ever has, I picture all these moments blending in the lives blending together into something that almost looks like something pleasant and beautiful we all recognize but isn't that at all. Beautiful but somber. So I did my best to share the feeling of that image in this piece. It is in my "rorshach" style, so let your eyes wander, there is much blended in for you to consider. If you do so, let me know how the experience made you feel when you are done. As always, full screen brightness is highly recommended for viewing my work. Enjoy!
