Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band released their classic LP "Against The Wind" on Feb 25, 1980. It is Seger's only number-one album, spending six weeks at the top of the Billboard Top LPs chart. To get to be the #1 album on the chart, they knocked Pink Floyd's "The Wall" from the top spot. The album also earned two Grammy Awards.

Bob got a little help from some friends of his for the vocals on the record, the Eagles' Glenn Frey, Don Henley and Timothy B. Schmit.

Do you have a favorite song from this LP?

Happy 41st Birthday to "Against The Wind"!!!

Happy birthday, George!

Happy birthday, George!

50 years ago this week George was set to celebrate what was to truly be a number 1 birthday with ‘All Things Must Pass’ topping the UK album charts and ‘My Sweet Lord’ holding the #1 single spot.

On the week of George's birthday another Apple release, Badfinger's ‘No Matter What’, was also in the top ten, along with Elton John’s ‘Your Song'. Mike will share his Alice Cooper story tonight.

His birth name was Vincent Damon Furnier and he got that name 73 years ago today. He is one of the pioneers of theatrical rock and he used snakes, electric chairs, guillotines and baby dolls on stage. He is a world class golfer and truly one of the nicest people you will ever meet. Of course we are talking about Alice Cooper and today is his birthday.

If you could go to his birthday party this evening and he asked you what one song of his you wanted him to play, what song would you choose? And, how many times have you seen Alice in concert so far?

Happy Birthday Alice!!!!

Phil Collins released his third solo LP "No Jacket Required" on Jan. 25, 1985. It features guest backing vocalists, including Helen Terry, Peter Gabriel and Sting. "One More Night", "Sussudio", "Don't Lose My Number", and "Take Me Home" were all released as singles, with corresponding music videos and all four were top ten hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, with "Sussudio" and "One More Night" reaching number one. The three singles that were released in the UK all reached the top 20 on the UK charts.

When the record first came out, it was received favorably by the majority of music critics, although opinions have become more negative in subsequent decades. It won three Grammy Awards including for Album of the Year.

When was the last time you listened to this record?

Happy 36th Birthday to "No Jacket Required"!!

41 years ago today.

The Pretenders first LP, simply titled "Pretenders" was released on this day in 1980. A combination of rock, punk and pop music, this album made the band famous. The album features the singles "Stop Your Sobbing", "Kid" and "Brass in Pocket".

Nick Lowe produced the Pretenders' first single, "Stop Your Sobbing", but decided not to work with them again as he thought the band "wasn't going anywhere". Chris Thomas took over on the subsequent recording sessions.

Pretenders debuted at number 1 on the UK Albums Chart in the week of its release and stayed there for four consecutive weeks. It also made the top 10 on the Billboard 200 and was certified Platinum during 1982 by the RIAA. Pretenders has been named one of the best albums of all time by VH1 ( #52). In 2003, Rolling Stone magazine ranked the album number 155 on its list of the 500 greatest albums of all time, and, in 1989, ranked it the 20th best album of the 1980s.

Any of you still listen to this album?

Happy 41st Birthday to The Pretenders album "Pretenders"!!!!

Who are The Gnarly Dudes

The sordid history of the Gnarly Dudes begins with Tim and Mike being separated from each other shortly after birth. Both boys were abandoned when their young mother was tragically killed in a freak hockey accident. She got run over by the Zamboni during a St Louis Blues/Chicago Blackhawks game while trying to win a between-period puck-shooting contest. Despite the efforts of trainers from both teams, she succumbed to her injuries on the ice.

Because their father was lost at sea trying to navigate the Northwest Passage in bass boat, and no other relatives could be found, authorities weren’t sure what to do with the boys. Since the two NHL teams were in the middle of a home-and-home series, it was decided that they would become wards of two different states.

Mike was sent to an orphanage in Illinois and escaped as soon as he learned to walk. He was raised by a family of Sasquatches in the forest preserves outside of Chicago. Tim was handed over to a group of Missouri gypsies and literally grew up on the wrong side of the tracks in St. Louis.

The two brothers, not knowing the other existed, met by chance on the streets of Colorado Springs while staring through the windows of the Gnarly 101.3 studios. This serendipitous encounter lead to conversations about 80’s music and pop culture.
