He recorded at the Music Machine Record Co. with hall of fame players, James Murphy (peddle steel) and Red Volkheart (bass, lead guitar),from Merle Haggard’s band, and some of the songs were picked up by Cameo/Price Music Group, Nashville, Tn. and he was given a signed publishing deal with Cameo in 1998. Rick Barron started playing music in college at Central Connecticut State, after playing college football in the late 1970’s. He started playing at the student union, at local coffee houses and bars like Ace Nichols Lounge in Taunton, Bridgewater State College, Brandeis, and venues as large as Boston College, Boston University, MIT Kresgie Auditorium, John B Hynes Auditorium for Governor Sargent, and in 1973 he he opened for songwriter, Alan Thomas of the Cannonball Adderly Quartet at Sanders Auditorium, Harvard University. He continued playing music and started recording original songs and demos in 1990-91 and recorded thirty two original songs with producer John Krivit and other writers at The Sound Market Recording Co. in Cambridge, Ma. His song, “Lay Not Up For Yourself” received a first runner up award at the Billboard Music Awards. In 1994 his single, “I Never Meant To Make You Cry” was recorded and distributed by Hollywood Records. He and his band won numerous MCMAA nominations and awards from 1992-96 including Most Promising Male Vocalist, Most Promising Band, Male Vocalist, Male Entertainer of The Year, and individual awards for”Best Guitar Player, Drummer, Bass Player, Piano Player, and Album of The Year.” His original songs on “One People, One Planet” combine country, bluegrass, blues, rockabilly, rock, island, and gospel music with lyrics filled with insight and powerful emotions. He and his band received accolades and coverage from a number of local cable television and radio shows, New England Cable Prime time News did a thirty minute special, and media personalities Joe Shortsleeves and Walt Perkins described Rick Barron as”..a future star with an arresting personality.” The album was again in the first runner up position at the 1993 Billboard Music Contest Awards. Royal Ford of The Boston Globe wrote about the band and country music””...people were able to connect with the words and go out and have fun....they sing today’s songs that deal critically with issues like politics, government, domestic abuse, drug and alcohol abuse...the music’s dance appeal is very similar to what got folks out dancing to rock n’ roll. New England Performer Magazine’s, Broadway Joe said, “..the album dropped me in my tracks and speaks for itself”, and A.J. Wachtell in Northeast Performer Magazine wrote,”..this album is real good time music with good songs and exceptional vocals.. while cruising in a convertible on a beautiful day down Route 66 listening to ‘Love Intoxication, or Elvis Boogie’ on the radio. The fuzz with a fender proves he’s the cop with a beat with his latest music.”

Rick Barron grew up listening to all the old greats in traditional country music and his Dad grew up next to the Appalachian Mountains of Harper’s Ferry, West Virginia and two of the songs Barron recorded, “If there’s A Country Heaven” and “Hangover Blues” with Merle’s band were in his father’s memory. Rick Barron and The Quavers have played numerous times for the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, “We Care” Fundraiser, Mass. Public Schools, hospitals, prisons, benefits, various benevolent organizations, veterans, and elks, weddings, lodges, at numerous hotels, Majesty Cruise Lines, and for The Make A Wish Foundation with his favorite childhood cowboy Rex Trailer. They have played concerts on many commons, and Rick Barron got his first standing ovation for the only “Blonde Elvis” show in town in Holden at the Gazebo which he went on to perform all over New England. When Barron gave his first cassette tape of his songs to Willie Nelson on Willie’s tour bus, Willie liked it and told him to keep gong. Barron’s pal Vance Gilbert told him the music really rocks and has great song writing. When Rick Barron was working as a Brookline Police Sergeant, Larry Harmon of the Brookline Citizen called him, “One of Brookline’s Living Treasures” and writer Kevin DeVine wrote, “Rick is an extremely talented song writer who keeps the beat”. Harvey Leonard said Rick Barron plays “..Outstanding country and western music. Boston Globe writer Sally Abrahms and Beat Magazine said it best” The music comes from Barron’s experiences on the beat. Rick Barron is great and so is his band..”

Rick Barron is in the studio recording new songs for another acoustic album to be released soon this year. After experiencing new personal experiences and some heartbreak, his music is reemerging again, having taken on new life and direction. The Light is still shining but even more personally on the song writer’s own life.
