Congrats Kayli and Mike!! Hilton Melbourne Beach Oceanfront, I Do Florida Weddings and Space Coast Weddings were rockstars when weather had other plans for their outside ceremony location! Surrounding yourself with competent, professional vendors on your wedding day is SO IMPORTANT! What could have been a little stressful, turned out to be absolutely perfect! Kayli and Mike are also the coolest couple ever and truly focused on what mattered that day! 🩷🩷

This time of year is slower at the resorts. I take this time to refine playlists and find new ways to connect with a less interactive audience. My goal this year is to do 3 things at the resort poolside DJ gigs.

1. Give them what they expect.
2. Give them something they forgot about.
3. Introduce them to something new.

This subject comes up a lot in the dj groups and forums. Here’s a good rule of thumb for volume.

How loud should the music be at a wedding?

Most mobile djspeakers will go up to about 130db but that is turned all the way up and the sound measured at the speaker. Decibel levels mean nothing when it comes to sound levels at events. Instead of considering db levels consider the ambient noise of the room/crowd.

Ceremony Prelude Music should be audible from the back row. Loud enough to hear what song is playing but low enough so that people can easily talk over it. If people have to struggle to speak over the music the crowd will become too loud and the serene, reverent, ceremony vibe will be lost.

Cocktail Hour music should be loud enough to fill the area but people should be able to talk over the music. The music should be loud enough to be clear and get some toes tapping but not loud enough to encourage dancing.

Dinner Music should be set just above the ambient noise of the room. You don’t want talking and clanging dishes to overpower the music but you don’t want people to force themselves to try and speak louder than the music. There a a definite Goldilocks zone for dinner music. I find myself adjusting it throughout dinner.

Dance Music should be played loud enough to make it impossible to speak comfortably near the dance floor. If the music isn’t loud enough people will start to talk instead of dance. This is one of the many reasons why the speakers and the dj must be located at the dance floor.

When it comes to toasts and speeches, it's common to have them at any time during your wedding or even at your rehearsal dinner. However, we have some professional recommendations that will not only enhance your wedding but also save valuable time and provide a better platform for effective delivery. 🎙️💍

We frequently come across timelines that include speeches during or even after dinner. While it may seem fine on paper, in practice, it presents several challenges. Once dinner is served, guests naturally engage in conversations, line up at the buffet, visit the bar, take bathroom breaks, enjoy the Photo Booth, and more. When it's time for speeches, it becomes nearly impossible to gather the attention of everyone in the room. The heartfelt words that speakers want to express to their loved ones often get lost amidst the background noise and distractions. 🗣️❤️

On a side note, videographers rely heavily on speeches when editing your wedding video. They capture the emotional moments and cherished memories that speeches bring to the forefront. 🎥📸

So, what's the solution? We recommend having the speeches just before dinner is served or the buffet opens. Here's our tried-and-true order of events:

1️⃣ Introductions of the parents/family
2️⃣ Bridal party introductions
3️⃣ The big intro: the newlyweds

After the introductions, we announce the highly anticipated first dance. Once the first dance is completed, we invite the couple to their sweetheart table while the first speaker is invited up for a heartfelt toast or speech.

By following this order, everyone will already be seated, the videographer and photographer will be in place, and the caterers will have poured the champagne. Performing the toasts in this way guarantees that everyone will be fully attentive, creating a magical and memorable moment. Plus, it ensures a smooth transition into dinner afterwards! 🍾🍽️
