Midwest Revue

Midwest Revue Since 1986, has featured independent music by Midwest artists. Not a slick high production show. Maybe you will hear somethin new and LOVE it. Which I took.

Instead its like sitting in the backyard with friends and family, sharing music. Tune in its GOOD STUFF! I created Midwest R***e in 1986. The first show aired on Labor Day weekend. I was doing an "oldies" show (two hours) on KCLN-FM in Clinton Iowa on Saturday mornings, my time slot was changed to (six hours) Sunday nights. I thought if I put together a show of local area bands doing original musi

c I could sell it to my boss. I did and he said sure, it's your show, do whatever you want. That really blew my mind. The first show a half hour long because that was all I could fill with the amount of music I had. Actually, in the first show I played one song twice just to fill the space. I began hitting the road placing flyers in music stores and recording studios. I would make trips to Chicago, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Omaha, Des Moines, Iowa City, St. Louis and every little record shop I could find. Eventually I started getting enough music to make Midwest R***e an hour show. By July of 1988 Midwest R***e became a two hour show. It;s been a two hour show ever since. Traveling musicians would stop in at the radio station sometimes and I would put them on the air to do a few songs live in the studio. Midwest R***e was on the air for 23 years. Doing the radio thing was a lot of fun but not much money. So I was also driving bus for the Clinton MTA to make enough money to live on. After driving for 25 years the city of Clinton offered me a buyout. After being off the air for several years I had a chance to bring Midwest R***e back to the airwaves on the same radio station (different call letters and different owners) where it originated. In April of 2016 Midwest R***e returned on KMCN-FM. It's the same building but a totally different setup. Radio has changed while I was gone. But the best thing about those changes is that KMCN has streaming. So Midwest R***e can be heard around the world. After the first three months I was told that my show listeners (online) were mainly from the local area. About 50%. Another 15% came from the Quad Cities, 7% from Iowa City, 5% from Des Moines and 3% from Russia. Wait a minute...Russia! That one surprised me. I'm not sure how many people it is because it just shows a percentage. This is the average over the first three months Midwest R***e has been back on the air. Everything else was at 1% or less. I decided to start a Midwest R***e Face Book Page to see what kind of response it gets. Welcome to Midwest R***e y'all.

Our Story

I created Midwest R***e in 1986. I had an idea for a show featuring local area bands doing original music and tried to sell it to my boss. He said, it's your show, do whatever you want. I thought, COOL! The first show aired on Labor Day weekend and was a half hour long because that was all I could fill with the amount of music I had. Actually, I played one song twice just to fill the space. I hit the road placing flyers in venues, record shops, music stores and recording studios. I made trips to Chicago, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Omaha, Kansas City, Des Moines, Iowa City, St. Louis and every little record shop I could find. Eventually, I had enough music to make Midwest R***e an hour show. In July of 1988 Midwest R***e became a two hour show. It’s been a two hour show ever since. In 1989 a group of traveling musicians stopped at the radio station and I put them on the air live, that was the beginning of Midwest R***e LIVE!. Midwest R***e was on the air for 21 years at KCLN-FM and 5 at KROS-AM in Clinton Iowa. Doing the radio gig was a lot of fun but not much money, I had to supplement my income by driving bus for the City of Clinton. After driving for 25 years I took a buyout from the city. That gave me a chance to bring Midwest R***e back on the same radio station (different call letters and different owners) where it originated. In April of 2016 Midwest R***e returned to the ariwaves on KMCN-FM (formerly KCLN-FM). It's the same building but a totally different setup. Radio has changed in the few years I was gone. The best thing about those changes is that KMCN has worldwide streaming. I decided to start a Midwest R***e Face Book Page to see what kind of response it gets. Welcome to Midwest R***e y'all.
