Sheryl Denise Swoopes is an American former professional basketball player. She was the first player to be signed in the WNBA,is a three-time WNBA MVP, and was named one of the league's Top 15 Players of All Time at the 2011 WNBA All-Star Game. Swoopes has won three Olympic gold medals and is one of eleven women's basketball players to have won an Olympic gold medal, an NCAA Championship, a FIBA World Cup gold, and a WNBA title. She was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016. In 2017, she was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame.

John Merrick (1859–1919) was an American businessman. Born into slavery in Clinton, North Carolina, Merrick founded various companies in the Raleigh, North Carolina and Durham, North Carolina areas, most notably the North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company. Portions of his wealth were channeled back into the black community through philanthropy. His business acumen and social consciousness made him one of the most influential members of the African-American community in his lifetime.

He was a major player in Black Wallstreet. If our forefathers could do it we can too! Let’s work together!!!

Did you know that the owner And designer of one of the largest Topiary Gardens in the south is from Clinton, NC!!! That’s right Pearl Fryar’s Topiary Garden is in Bishopville SC.

He attended school in Durham NC! He has a documentary A Man Named Pearl which was produced by Scott Galloway and Brent Pierson about his work.
