Good Order

Good Order A Journal of Political Life Good Order is a journal of political commentary. Doing so means making connections between past, present and future.

My project is to view events and issues on a deeper level than we find in the daily news cycle and place our social, political and cultural institutions in an historical context. It also means unearthing occasionally uncomfortable truths. But I’ve never been one to preach to the choir, and besides, simply having our priors confirmed is both unproductive and dull. Engaging with something thought-pr

ovoking is a lot more fun. I look forward to our conversation.

Just an FYI, my friends: I've changed the name of my politics-oriented publication on Substack from Commentatio to Good Order. One reason is the feedback I've gotten about the Latin title, which was a bit of a stretch for some.

But more importantly, the new title better reflects the themes I'll be addressing from the perspective of one of my favorite quotes, from Edmund Burke (that's him in the profile pic): "Good order is the foundation of all things."

Everything else is the same, although any links to the old title will be broken. But we're kind of starting over, so that's fine. A fresh start and a fresh title are just what we needed.

Thank you all and stay tuned for more to come.

And we are back in business. This first post is a personal one, but there's much more to come.
