Escape, the 1st single from my upcoming EP Melting Day, is out today!
This song is about learning how to become comfortable with my own thoughts and desires. I started writing it nearly 4 years ago at a time when I was quite averse to that because I knew it would cause a lot of change. Since training as a therapist, I learned about the concept of experiential avoidance- that fighting one’s internal experience to make difficult thoughts and feelings go away ultimately backfires. When we allow space for pain, we have much more freedom to do what matters. This song is about me coming to understand that idea not just on paper but in my own experience.
Immensely grateful to my partner @plant_carey who believed in me and beautifully recorded, played instruments, mixed, and produced the EP.
