Earth Day
Monday is Earth Day and we are at Lake Hiawatha preserve in Clermont for an early celebration. It’s wonderful to see so many people joining the celebration and collecting litter from the shores of Lake Minneola. Here is Clermont Mayor Tim Murray with a message:

Come on down to the Groveland Founder’s Festival at Lake David - fireworks are at 9pm!
Come on out this beautiful afternoon to see the classic cars at the VFW Post 5277’s fundraiser at Ruby Tuesday in Clermont. We are proud to have sponsored this event - our Publisher Billy Kirk and Assistant Publisher Ashley Abear are there so stop by to say hello! 💙
We had a great time at the city’s Harvest Festival. There is so much still going on in downtown Clermont. Thanks to Clermont Main Street and all the sponsors for organizing such a wonderful event. ☀️
Today is the downtown Clermont Harvest Festival. There’s so much to do and Mayor Tim Murry has a message for you!
This afternoon, Fire Station 1 in Clermont celebrated a new fire truck with a ‘push back’ ceremony. This is a ceremony that is a reference back to the 1800’s when fire trucks were pulled by horses and fire fighters had to push the fire engine back themselves into the firehouse. Watch this- it’s so cool to see!
Sherman Vannoy’s parents attended his 18th birthday memorial this evening. His brave mom had this to say to their Minneola friends, family and school kids who have shown so much support to the family at this incredibly sad time:

Today was Sherman Vannoy’s 18th birthday. Dozens of people came to his girlfriend’s house tonight to pay their respects to the teenager who lost his life on Monday after a tragic accident cycling to Lake Minneola Hjgh School. It was a real show of community at this sad time. RIP Sherman 😢💔🙏
Come out to the Farmer’s Market in downtown Clermont this morning. With the streetscaping works still ongoing, the market has moved to 8th Street and beyond. Our Publisher Billy Kirk is down there checking it out:
We sincerely hope that everyone stayed safe during the storm. Our Publisher Billy Kirk made it into our office in Downtown Clermont this morning - here’s some footage he took of our little ghost town.
