Late last week President Judge Frederic Ammerman issued an order regarding accused teen murderer Aaron Klingensmiths motion to have his trial moved to the juvenile system. 14 year old Aaron John Klingensmith of Luthersburg is facing numerous charges stemming from a fatal April 28th shooting incident involving a 12 year old female victim at a Bearfield Road residence. In an opinion dated January 23rd, Ammerman granted the defense motion and Klingensmiths case will be transferred to juvenile court. The order comes after oral and written arguments by the prosecution and defense. In his order Ammerman cited several factors taken into consideration which include; Impact of the offense on the victim; impact of the offense on the community as a whole, threat to safety to the public, nature and circumstances of the event; degree of the child’s culpability; adequacy and duration of sentencing alternatives available; and when the child is amenable to treatment, supervision, or rehabilitation. Friday the prosecution filed a notice of appeal regarding Ammermans Thursday opinion granting Klingensmiths motion. The criminal complaint states that Klingensmith was sitting on the couch at his residence with the 12 year old victim and asked her if she would like to see his father’s gun. Klingensmith then allegedly retrieved his fathers pistol, which was located in a case on top of a safe in the living room. Then Klingensmith pointed the gun at the victim and proceeded to ask her, “loaded or unloaded?” After the victim responded, Klingensmith pulled the trigger and the gun discharged striking the victim in the head. Klingensmith said after he pulled the trigger, the victim “dropped.” The victim was transported to a childrens hospital in Pittsburgh where she succumbed to her injury. The preliminary cause of death has been listed as blunt force trauma as the result of a gunshot wound. Following an investigation, it was determined Aaron Klingensmith has knowledge of fi****ms and firearm safety.

PennDOT Reduces Speed Limit on I-80 in Jefferson and Clearfield Counties

Indiana, PA – PennDOT is temporarily reducing the speed limit to 55 mph on I-80 Eastbound and Westbound in Jefferson and Clearfield Counties between Exit 73: PA 49 - Corsica in Jefferson County and Exit 123: PA 70 North – Woodland/Shawville.

Although PennDOT crews have been treating roadways, the department’s primary goal is to keep roads passable, not completely free of ice and snow. PennDOT will continue to treat roadways.

While PennDOT recommends not traveling during winter storms, motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles, including color-coded winter conditions on 2,900 miles, by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.
