The Stanton Tourism and Convention Commission has taken the last several hours to partake in deep discussion between the National Weather Service, local authorities, and other parties involved.

We are sorry to announce that, due to impending weather from Hurricane Ian, this year’s Pumpkin Festival is unfortunately cancelled.

The safety of our vendors, entertainment, and crowd is our #1 priority and we do not feel that continuing forward with tomorrow’s festival is in the best interest of everyone involved.

Thank you all for your interest and promotion of our festival. We were SO ready to enjoy a Saturday in the gateway of the Red River Gorge with you all, but are looking forward to doing so next year!

Daytime closures of KY 613 in Powell County June 13-17

JACKSON, Ky. – Work is nearing completion on a break repair project on KY 613 (North Fork Road) in the Red River Gorge in Powell County.

The road has been closed to all traffic at milepoint 9.224, approximately 0.4 miles from the end of state maintenance at the Menifee County line. It will be reopened to traffic this weekend, but daytime closures are necessary next week for the repairs to be completed.

Drivers will need to find an alternate route between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 13-17, as the contractor crew finishes the repair work.

No signed detour will be posted, but drivers can use Forest Service Route 23, KY 77, and KY 11/KY 15 through Menifee County as an alternate route. This route involves the Nada Tunnel and is not suited for larger vehicles. Drivers of oversize vehicles too large to use the tunnel will need to find a different detour route.

Fewer than 50 vehicles use this section of highway each day.

Lane closure planned for Mountain Parkway in Powell County
Break repair in eastbound slow lane begins Monday, June 13

JACKSON, Ky. – A lane closure is planned to begin Monday, June 13, to allow a contractor crew to repair a break on the Bert T. Combs Mountain Parkway in Powell County.

The right eastbound lane will be closed at milepoint 20.429, between the KY 1057 (Clay City) and KY 213 (Stanton) exits. The eastbound carriageway will be reduced to one lane for the duration of the project, which is expected to take around 10 days.

Drivers should move to the left lane in advance of the work zone, and reduce speed through the project area. Westbound traffic is not affected by this project. No vehicle width restrictions are in effect for this project, but the limitations continue for both directions of travel for a bridge repair project between Stanton and Slade.
