“She tries these characters on like auditioning for different roles or grabbing costumes from a rack… She doesn’t simply mourn Ophelia or Desdemona, she throws back the curtains, slams on the stage lights, and tries to write them out, into a better future, a brighter ending, for them, and for her.”

Maisie Williams, on Dayna Patterson’s O Lady, Speak Again (Signature Books, 2023)

♥️♥️♥️Manifestation Hearts♥️♥️♥️

Y’all absolutely LOVED filling out our seed paper hearts at SoFest with all the things you’re manifesting for your writing goals or just general life things, and we’re here for it!

We wanted to let you know that we’re working on planting your hopes and dreams with the Austin Peay SOS Food Pantry, who have a wonderful space filled with trees, plants, crops, bees, and even chickens! The SOS Food Pantry organizes a lot of volunteering activities for students and employees alike, and they support students who struggle with food insecurity. So, we’re very honored to be working with them.

This project will be a couple months in the making as we head into the winter season, but we’ll posts updates as we get them! In the meantime, know that all of us at Zone 3 are manifesting these thoughts for you! ♥️

And here’s our fiction exquisite co**se from our last day at SoFest! We were so happy to see those who contributed to our exquisite co**ses get excited about writing together, and overall, we think our cooperative efforts ended up pretty interesting! The twists and turns in this one 😧 Check out the transcript below⬇️⬇️⬇️
My feet pounded against the pavement, the air, thin and cold, burning my lungs. I knew there was such a thing as a runner’s high, but it seemed more and more fictional with every second.

Maybe that only happens when you aren’t being chased. My throat itched from the sharp, cold air, but I never felt more alive!

The sun created a shadow, long and dark, that reached for me. And I found myself stretching my hand toward the darkness, too. I craved to be embraced by it. It seemed oddly comforting.

I reached and my fingers found a puddle. It was not shallow but deep. I pushed my hand into its depths, feeling a cold wrap around my fingers. There was comfort, but there was fear too. Grit and rocks rolled under my hand.

I kept my hand there until the rocks got warm. When my hand emerged from the water I felt refreshed and ready to start anew.

I looked to the ground. I saw the shadow of my new dragon wings greeting me.

There is a heavy pressure on my chest and a pair of green eyes glinting at me. As the eyes sparkle, I feel a pulsing energy radiating down my arms. Had we bonded so quickly?

I then startled, as a voice sounded clearly in my head.

“Is this what you want? What you really want?”

I start to panic. “Is this my voice?” I turn to see if there’s a person around. Is someone talking to me through my mind?

Here’s the result of our wonderful exquisite co**se poem from SoFest a few weeks ago! Thank you to everyone who participated, and stay tuned for our fiction one tomorrow!
My tongue becomes a little mist
words evaporating, my throat thick with unspoken
rhymes never to be told and words spoken with
silent glances in the darkness

It’s a mercy that your name never passes my lips.
You’ve made sure its Astringency never leaves my palate, a prayer known only to me.

Palate placement makes all of the
knees aside me quake
But I’ve spent enough time
on my knees, worn a
groove
through the blades of grass making an
imprint on my heart.

A deep, grand cut that’s been there
from the start
Rising to expose my innermost, most intimate me
A silent truth with a hungry voice.

I met a hound called Iris, dragonfire on her tongue,
Stopped to get a burger, after her fries she was all done
Awakened later by a bark, Iris realized too late
how bright was the sun, and suddenly a kindness fell
upon
everyone like a weighted blanket of forgetting without
forgiveness. Sharp, and soft, all at the same time, warmth
still blooms, though barbed words can’t be unspoken
