Spotlight - Zone 3 Writer's Festival 📘

The festival is a community literary event that brings folks to campus for three days of workshops, master classes and readings of student works. The festival ends in a ceremony for a CMCSS writing competition. All funds over the goal will go to the College of Arts and Letters Fund Of Excellence.

Continuing our celebration of Native American Heritage Month (and Native American Heritage Day!) we want to highlight some of our past contributors.

Jessica Tyner Mehta was published in Volume 31.1 in 2018 with her poem "Nesting" and in Volume 33.1 in 2021 with her poem "These Are Strange Days,".

Dr. Deidra Suwanee Dees was published in Volume 36.2 in 2021 with her poems "Shadows" and "Dance".

Gwendoline Paradice was published in Volume 36.2 in 2021 with her creative nonfiction piece "Hit Box".

The folx at Zone 3 want to thank these authors for sharing their work with us!

During Native American Heritage Month, we want to celebrate Louise Erdrich, an enrolled Turtle Mountain Chippewa and award-winning author. In 2008, Erdrich worked with students as a recipient of the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts at APSU Roy Acuff Chair of Excellence in 2008.

The students of APSU and the student editors of Zone 3 were able to have many meaningful conversations with Erdrich, compiled in the Spring 2009 issue of the journal.

Zone 3 is grateful for Erdrich's invaluable insight to our editors, students of APSU, and Zone 3 readers!

Zone 3 is funded by the Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts at APSU (CECA, or seek-ah)! Here at Zone 3, we have decided to team up with The New Gallery, which is another CECA-funded program that features 3-5 curated art exhibitions a year at Austin Peay State University!
This team-up means some changes for our Submittable page, which will show that our page is used for CECA-funded programs, not only for Zone 3. Now, if you try to find us through Submittable’s search engine, you must search for "Center of Excellence for the Creative Arts."

You can still reach our Submittable page through the “Submit” link on the top right of Zone 3’s website. Currently, our Submittable page’s URL is the same, but if any changes are made, our website’s link will be updated, and we will let you know!

Bohan Gao is a seventeen-year-old Chinese-American writer from North Carolina. She has been recognized for her writing by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers and her work is published in the Rising Phoenix Review, Surging Tide Magazine, and Addanomadd, among others.
