🥴 We can do better than this Clarksville…

REALLY?!?!
At a tee ball game?
Clarksville Now reports the Tee-Ball All-Stars tournament for 5 and 6-year-old boys and girls was cancelled.
Why?
Over a vulgar on-field argument among adults.
Yup … parents going berserk over a ruling ejecting a coach and player.
I mean, who makes that kind of ruling?
This IS Tee Ball.
Rules be damned.
(Uh, to be clear, I am being sarcastic.)
I don’t know if the call was correct or fair.
But regardless, that does not excuse abusive behavior.
You can read all of the ugly details in the link here to the Clarksville Now story.
But, geez.
I’ve seen such absurd behavior first hand as a youth basketball referee.
This past season, an enraged parent charged me on the court upset with some calls … getting in my face … using foul language and embarrassing himself.
I just smiled … thanked him for his input and walked away.
He’s lucky it ended there.
My point is these pathetic parents are ruining it for their children who, by the way, are almost always well-behaved and good sports.
But for how long when they witness their own parents acting like fools?
Lousy examples.
Youth sports are supposed to be fun.
Sure, you want to win.
Yeah, referees and umpires try hard, but still will make plenty of bad calls.
I know I did.
We are not pro referees.
We don’t make much money refereeing or umpiring.
We do it because we want kids to have an opportunity to play and without us … no one plays.
Be careful, because more and more are quitting because the abuse is not worth it.
So, just relax … and enjoy watching your kids play.
At age 5 and 6 most of these youngsters don’t even care if they win or lose.
They just want to go for pizza and ice cream after the game.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?

About Fort Defiance
The Fort Defiance Civil War Park and Interpretive Center, 120 Duncan Street, is operated by the Clarksville Parks & Recreation Department. The fort, which overlooks the confluence of the Red and Cumberland rivers, was a cornerstone of the Confederate defense of the area and an important part of the Union occupation of Clarksville. In 1982, Judge and Mrs. Sam Boaz donated the property to the City of Clarksville. In 2008, the City secured a $2.2 million federal grant that was combined with local funding to build the interpretive center and walking trails. The Center features exhibits about the local area and the fort during the Civil War.

~ To***co Exchange ~
Completed in 1879, the To***co Exchange was located on near Public Square and served as the home for the To***co Board of Trade. Costing approximately $30,000, the building contained offices, salerooms, and an entertaining hall. The first basement was home to a saloon and restaurant operated by Frank Byers and Charlie Lehman. The offices were mostly on the first and second floors and were rented out to local businessmen. The third floor was devoted to the entertaining hall. Featuring elegant chandeliers, water fixtures, and steam heating, the large hall was home to many social functions. To***co sales were conducted in the main salesroom located in the second basement. A balcony known as the farmer’s gallery overlooked the salesroom from the first floor, where buyers from all of the world negotiated the purchase of locally grown to***co. By 1930 though to***co practices were changing, and the To***co Exchange was no longer in use and was demolished.
