Such a lovely event today hosted by 💜 I loved sharing books and art with little guests! Thankful for the invite and grateful for the beautiful weather!

I've seriously thought about offering live painting services at events as Rapunzel. I'd love to paint a wedding or other special gathering.

I've never done a live painting before so I'm not sure what caliber of work I'd be able to produce in a limited amount of time, but if anyone is interested in letting me try a live painting I'd love to donate my first one! 🌟

Thank you friends who came to storytime this morning at ! 💙❄️

We learned about the letter M, and read the books "Z is for Moose," "Ella Sarah gets Dressed" and "Bunny Breaths."

Here's some ways that parents can continue to enhance their child(ren)'s alphabet knowledge:

• Pick a letter, and see how many times you can find it throughout the day. You can refer to items on a grocery list, road signage, billboards, recipes, home decor, product labels, etc - it's like a treasure hunt!

• Find objects that are shaped like the letter - stapler removers could look like the letter A or the letter V, plates could be the letter O, etc.

• Play a game of charades, but only pick things that start with your letter of the day.

• Have a bucket with objects in it that all start with the same letter, and describe what they are. "What animal is small and gray, has big ears and a long tail, makes a squeaking sound and eats cheese?" A mouse! This game is a favorite I like to play during storytime.

I may have closed the book on the business side of things, but I’m still making myself available as an independent performer for select events 💛

Closed up the Reading Royalty chapter to start a new one - introducing Fableroast! I am starting an equitable coffee company prioritizing mutual aid, the preservation of the arts, and access to literacy. As a character performer, I will be utilizing my skills and talents to enhance the novelty of my business as well as provide easier access to an experience that is typically considered a luxury.

When my socials reach the number of followers required to go live, I will have virtual children’s storytime programs on Magical Mondays - ideally this will be every Monday morning unless communicated otherwise. The program will be designed for children ages 0-5, but anyone is welcome to tune in and have a listen! The storytimes will be structured like a library storytime, complete with books, songs, activities, demonstrations, etc.

When the physical shop is open for business (our first stand will be a mobile coffee trailer) we will have a little free library with rotating materials for both youth and adults. Ideally we will be in a location where we can have an optional in-person storytime in the same area as the shop - but we’ll cross that bridge when it happens.

I will try to have live storytimes going both here and over on - but that may be logistically difficult, so no promises they’ll be shown here as well.

The last few years have been crucial times of growth for me, and I hope to continue that trend of growth/healing/learning. Fableroast is centered on community building, mutual aid, the preservation of the arts, and promoting literacy - I want it to act as a vessel. A living thing, composed of a variety of diverse characters committed to building a better world. I have to believe this is possible. And if it all comes crashing down in the end, then I at least have to have tried.

I know the irony of posting this on April Fool’s Day, but this isn’t a joke 😅

Reading Royalty LLC, a children’s entertainment company, is officially closed for business. This account will remain active with a new goal in mind - to share my love of literacy and knowledge with my community, and encourage families to understand the importance of reading.

I am going back to my roots of performing as a community service. That being said, I DONT OWE ANYONE MY SERVICES. I am allowed to decline invitations, I will not be made to feel pressured or guilty about performing any kind of service, for anyone, at any time. I will serve on my own accord, when I want, how I want, to the best of my ability. Yay boundaries!

Thank you to all of our clients who have had us perform for your child’s birthday parties, events, and programs. We really did cherish the memories we helped create and we appreciate your patronage.

3 weeks left 🩵

I had the idea a little while ago to use this platform for content related to what I’ve learned as a character performer and how I’ve integrated my knowledge as a library professional into my performances - which is a decent idea, I just don’t think I realistically have the time to implement it 😅 so we’ll have to wait and see.

I’m being very methodical with my next business. I have a lot of faith in the concept, as do the people currently working with me, and I don’t want to screw this up. So I need to table some of my extra ADHD projects and focus on one thing at a time.

After the closure I will keep these social media accounts open as my personal princess diary - I would like to create content centered around community service, early literacy, and how other performers in the industry can add value to their performances by prioritizing education.

And also - NO PAYWALL. I believe knowledge should be accessible. There may be some kind of donation fund set up if you feel so inclined, but it is by no means an expectation. If someone chooses to steal my content and try monetizing off of it that’s not a sin I have to atone for 🤷‍♀️ there will always be people in this world who choose exploitation for personal gain unfortunately, and I’m trying not to allow hypothetical fear to control my decisions. I will deal with things as they come, and if I catch anyone stealing my intellectual property, best be aware I will seek accountability.

Why I’m closing ✨

In addition to the video I posted yesterday, I wanted to re-state/clarify why I’m closing and what Reading Royalty will look like going forward~

• As much as I love being a character performer, this industry does not generate enough revenue to pay myself and my performers a liveable wage. Work-life balance is very important to me and I don’t want to work 2-3 jobs for the rest of my life and still never be able to afford my own home. My time, labor, and skills are valuable and need to be treated as such.

• This is a luxury industry, and my services aren’t as accessible to the community demographic. If I was in a privileged position where I didn’t have to work at all, I’d keep the company going - but the reality is I’m not bringing in enough money given all the investments/sacrifices I’ve made to bring this thing to fruition and keep it going. I’ve essentially been working for free for the past 2 years, plus holding a second job to help pay operating expenses.

• I want to cultivate a workplace community that is neurodivergent friendly, equitable, prioritizes mutual aid/community togetherness - and as a barista of nearly 4 years now, I’ve decided to venture into the coffee industry. I’m fed up with the exploitation involved in the food/drink/service industry given how much revenue is generated - I’m not starting out with loads of capital so I have a long, hard road ahead of me, but I’m dedicated to creating a new kind of work environment that values people over profit.

• I will still be available for independent bookings on a limited basis. I’m the only character performer in the general region without having to travel to Spokane/Couer D’Alene, and I recognize some folks still want these services. You are welcome to send me a private message on my personal account (Olive Dilling) after the closure if you still want to book a princess.

My love for performing and early literacy isn’t going away - these are characteristics I plan on implementing in my next business as well. In fact, I think my services will be more accessible in the future given this shift in industry. Thank you for all of your support!

I will only be able to accommodate one performer at this time - no multiple character parties/events. Certain characters are not available circumstantially (ex: the Mermaid Princess in her tail cannot be booked for Princess Pop-Ins).
