I normally don't edit my films to fit the vertical aspect ratio of today's social media videos, but I did this to prove a point. I've heard from many people that filmmakers / videographers at weddings are getting replaced by "Content Creators" who film the wedding day with cellphones or other cameras in vertical format and edit video "Reels" of the day and take cellphone photos.
So what is my point? Content creators can never replace a true filmmaker that excels at story-telling. You can always "create content" with our footage from our cinema cameras but you can never edit a proper cinematic film from vertical cellphone footage.
Our footage zoomed/cropped in on 1.8x to fill a vertical screen still has better / more detail and looks better than any over-sharpened cellphone footage. There is a time and place for everything. But proper filmmaking is timeless.
