August 15 —the day we lost Will Rogers, 88 years ago, at the crash site near Point Barrow, Alaska.

Here’s Will’s travel typewriter hauled from the crash, on display at his Claremore, OK Memorial Museums… and a 1935 photo of Wiley Post’s crumpled pod-plane they were touring in, a heap in a shallow lagoon.

We use Will’s “death day” weekend to peg happy events to at the ranchhouse state Park in Santa Monica—but I can’t get through this day with somber reflection on the loss… and the global shock reaction on a par with that for JFK or John Lennon.

That bashed typewriter… just silently mourns out to me whenever I see it. Literally, a voice silenced.

Fortunately… we have the receipts: the words, the audio and the video. ❤️
