Our most recent Cereal Box publication by Katie Baker / “Lacuna” is an illustrated short story about self-inflicted stigmata, creating evidence of invisible experiences. We had such a fun release event for this book earlier this year at the Boxelder Community Room in Northside (Cincinnati) and copies are still available! Riso-printed and hand-bound in an edition of 200, with interior drawings in black and cover in bright red.

Announcing Tidelines Winter 2024 (issue #20!) ~~ Green Green Rocky Road ~~ titled after one of my favorite traditional / schoolyard songs, apparently heard from poet Bob Kaufman in greenwich village, which became the recorded song now made famous by Dave Van Ronk and other musicians from that folk generation. 🌟Announcement! 🌟In case you haven’t noticed in person, we are pregnant! Eric and I are over the moon about a new baby coming into our lives. As a self-employed person / small business owner, it is hard to prepare for a baby without any safety of maternity leave or paid time off!! The state of Ohio doesn’t have a program for people like me (a few states do) so it’s up to us to save up some money and do some complex schedule communication to make it all work. We are due end of October, so planning to take mid-Oct through end of the year completely off and get back into the swing of things when it feels right (january- february- ish?). I guess that’s the upside of being in charge is that I can return to this work when the stars align and my heart tells me it shall be so. In the meantime, we are so grateful for everyone that brings work our way, whether it be design or printing or publishing, and for the freedom to be ourselves in the process.
On a more practical note, subscribers should expect a fall and winter shipment as scheduled, including a calendar in early December! The only change we’re making is that the Winter issue of Tidelines is a big one ( #20) so we’re planning on postponing that issue for the new year and doing something special. So keep an eye out for that winter tidelines prompt and come see us at the Cincinnati Art Book Fair for a copy of any of the cool books we’ve been working on lately.

Just updated our online shop with a few last copies of Electric Word Life!

What if Purple Rain was a double album? Why did Prince hide a jazz side project? How did 1999 influence the creation of house music? How does it feel to get dissed in a Prince song? Electric Word Life collects five years of writing on the late pop star and his expansive catalog, including Batman, B-sides, 1999, and the disappearing digital singles of the 21st century. Jack Riedy (Pitchfork, GQ, VIBE) combines original interviews and personal stories to illustrate Prince’s lasting impact and the unique relationship between listeners and the music they love. The risograph-printed book features original artwork by Mary Gring.

50-page paperback, 7”x7,” sewn binding, printed in fluo pink, blue, and black inks; ISBN 978-1-7335169-2-1

Such a joy to work with Nina Alexander on her new monograph!

The Jungle That I Am: Pastel Drawings 2019-2021, marks an exquisite new high point in the long arc of Nina Alexander's distinguished artistic career. This new publication highlights a recent collection of her vivid pastel drawings (2019-2021) all reproduced in full color that follow on an insightful essay looking at earlier decades of work preceding these images chronicled here for the first time in print. The 120-page volume reveals a colorful dream-driven mythos:

“Symbols from the depths of fantasy worlds and mythology animate metamorphic forms. Hints of folk, outsider and indigenous art are conveyed with fluent lines and vibrant colors. There are manifestations of a powerful unconscious drive and pan-cultural erudition in these luminous, festive works.”

—excerpt from Gordon McConnell’s essay A Dream World Bestiary

Published in paperback, french flaps, 123 pages, 10 x 10 inches, 77 full page reproductions, 4-color printing on satin paper. Introduction by Nina Alexander; essay by Gordon McConnell; edited by Christopher Warner. Published by Materialist Press, an imprint of Cereal Box Studio, 2021. ISBN 978-1-7335169-1-4
