WELCOME TO THE FIRST DAY OF THE 2024-2025 WINTER SEASON! YES, THAT'S RIGHT IT'S OFFICIALLY WINTER FROM TODAY UNTIL THU, MAR 20, 2025!

THE WINTER SOLSTICE OCCURS IN THE NORTHERN HEMISPHERE ON SATURDAY, DEC. 21. THIS CELESTIAL EVENT HAPPENS WHEN THE EARTH'S AXIAL TILT POSITIONS THE NORTHERN HEMISPHERE OF EARTH (INCLUDING THE SWVA/NETN STORM COVERAGE AREA) AT ITS FARTHEST POINT FROM THE SUN, RESULTING IN THE LEAST AMOUNT OF DAYLIGHT FOR THE YEAR. AS ONE MAY CONCLUDE, THE FARTHER AWAY FROM THE SUN, THE COLDER IT GETS!

So far the clipper system that has prompted the winter weather advisory for parts of the coverage area has not looked very impressive on the radar for most of the day.

Any snowfall reports are greatly appreciated. Don't forget to include your location and time of your report.

As with a lot of winter weather forecast, they can be some of the hardest to predict.
