Our purpose is to help folks, who are interested in scale modeling, develop their modeling skills and knowledge, so they can follow their own creative paths and enhance their enjoyment of the process of modeling. While we focused on scale miniatures (furniture, houses, and other domestic artifacts--with an occasional foray into wheeled vehicles), the tools, techniques, and skills, intentionally, s
tretch far beyond the modeling scope of the journal and books. For over 50 years, Dorsett Publications has specialized in publishing books (The Cabinetmaker's Guides) and The Scale Cabinetmaker. providing accurate information on tools, techniques, and materials for the scale modeler. Each project is designed to teach a new set of skills that can be used in other projects of your choosing. The Scale Cabinetmaker, our flagship publications, has been called "the encyclopedia of miniature making" and "the best reference for scale modelers" on the market. As Jim Dorsett, the founding editor said, in his final editorial in 1996, the mark of The Scale Cabinetmaker's success was in the graduation of our readers beyond the necessity of TSC. The proof was in both the range of our original readership (while most of our subscribers were interested in dollhouse miniatures, we also had model railroaders, model shipbuilders, military modelers, set designers, architects, watchmakers, jewelers, and others) and their success in the hobby.
