A love letter to our AMY family ✨

We are truly SO proud of everyone involved in this project. Belladonna has grown so much as a collective while working with all of you amazing human beings. It has been an ACTUAL dream for us to create with artists who want to take a leap into something new & challenging and we are in awe that we get to share this with y’all every single day. Working with some of the most professional & talented folks we’ve ever collabed with has been an absolute honor. So thank you for trusting us and diving into this show headfirst, despite having full lives and responsibilities outside of this production. We honestly couldn’t imagine putting on our first show with any other crew. We love you guys so much ❤️

✨Meet our last Amy || Kendra Jean✨

Why you pursue creativity:
iiii actually think creativity pursues us and we either say yes to that vulnerability or we don’t. Personally, I cope with substantial life lessons by creating emotional performance visuals in my mind in order to fully process & heal. Openly sharing my feelings was always hard for me, so I kept a mental journal of untapped art for 28 years until I learned how to communicate without shame. But still, telling a story with words alone doesn’t always allow listeners to experience the full spectrum of emotions being shared by the artist. I LOVE a visual performance that encourages me to think, reflect and empathize with another person through their movements. Being able to cast meaningful vision for this group of people has been extremely healing & humbling for me and a lot of the Amy’s in this cast (who are all absolute MONSTERS at what they do btw) so its been wildly satisfying to watch this show unfold over the last few months.

Why you said yes to this show:
Belladonna is my FAMILY! We brainstormed on how to kickstart our production goals for a year before Amy happened because we wanted to do something truly meaningful and different... So when the Welsh-Johnson sisters approached us with this idea, it clicked immediately. We had the perfect team & community to pull this dynamic show together quickly and WE 👏🏼 DID 👏🏼 IT 👏🏼

Amy Winehouse left an iconic mark on the music industry as a whole, but in recent months has absolutely changed my life as a friend who I want to protect & remember fondly. I only hope we can share her story and help folks further understand her artistry in a new light. There was so much more to her than what was seen in the tabloids and we want to showcase her genuine character the best way we possibly can.

You can take the same phrase from any song and cut it up so many different ways - it’s infinite.” I love this quote by Nina Simone-it inspires me to keep creative even when I’m feeling unproductive. Music and art have a ceiling that is everlasting!

I have always been an Amy fan and admirer, I often think about what she would be creating if she were still on this earth. I feel so incredibly lucky to be apart of this show-Belladonna’s doing big things Chico, look out.

I pursue creativity because it allows me to express myself, think outside the box, and find innovative solutions to problems. Being a plus size performer has taught me to showcase my talent, creativity, and passion for the arts without conforming to social beauty standards. Embracing my body and sharing my talents on stage brings me confidence, empowerment, and the opportunity to inspire others to do the same. Creativity brings joy, fulfillment, and a sense of accomplishment to my life. And I’m also so sickening, I can’t deprive the world of Miss Ruby.

Why you said yes to this show :
When the opportunity came to me, and I was asked to emcee an Amy Winehouse r***e, my first thought was, seems correct. Unknowingly, it would be more than just a show.. it’s turned into a self rediscovery, and self realization that everyone in some capacity can relate to Amy. My love for Winehouse stems back to middle school listening to “F**CK me pumps” on my first generation ipod. Her struggles and LOVE have helped me tremendously on my sober journey, and I can’t wait to honor her by performing sober, almost 8 months. And to Jeanie and Sandii at BDC, THANK YOU for helping guide me through my personal struggles during this spectacular show.

Why you pursue creativity :
I think art is one of the purest forms of self-expression. When we don’t know how to say how we’re feeling, art serves as the perfect bridge. It’s something that can connect everyone and can evoke different feelings from different people. It’s a way that people can be vulnerable, but wrapped in the safety of a performance. Art has been the one constant in my life. No matter what, if I can be creative, I can feel fulfilled.

Why you said yes to this show :
I am so honored and humbled to be working alongside my team here at BDC. I’m so grateful for the balance we can provide each other with our varied expertise and being able to learn and grow from each other. I can’t imagine doing any of this without these beautiful, wild, passionate humans. Jeanie, Ris, Snad, I love you guys and I can’t wait to continue changing the game with you. Being able to work with and uplift the amazingly talented people in our cast&crew&community has been such a joy. To share the stage with these incredible artists is such a privilege.

In a soprano saturated market, Amy Winehouse was my reprieve. I spent a lot of my childhood cursing my inability to sing as high as all of the female artists that I looked up to until she broke into the mainstream. Singing along with her jazzy vocals made me love my voice type for the first time. She was witty, raw, and authentic. As many artists do, she deserved better from the industry.

In loving Amy’s music, I also want to acknowledge and give thanks to the black artists that heavily influenced her sound such as Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, Thelonious Monk, and Dinah Washington. The inspirations for her iconic hairstyle, The Ronettes. The artists that influenced her that she names in her songs Ray Charles, Sammy Davis JR., Nas, and Slick Rick.

The reason I embraced this show is deeply rooted in my personal journey of self-discovery, especially in the realm of fashion & self-expression. Throughout my life, I have always been drawn to the timeless allure of pinup and rockabilly styles, yet faced ridicule for my taste—until I discovered Amy. She was a kindred spirit, an icon not just for her fashion but also for her exceptional musical talents and poignant lyricism that delved into the complexities of human relationships. Why I pursue creativity:
I knew from a young age that I needed a creative outlet. I was always a loud and eccentric kid, and my family knew that energy had to be used in some capacity. I’ve always had such a deep love for performance art and just knew it needed to be something I continued to pursue in my adult life.

Amy, Amy, Amy. If you’d ask me to name an artist who had such a great impact on pop culture and what the state of music is in today, miss Winehouse would be one of the first names out of my mouth. I am incredibly honored to be performing alongside an incredible team of individuals and creatives who are working together to put on a beautiful tribute to Amy’s legacy.

Shoutout : I will be hosting a movement workshop in the next couple months as an intro into body mechanics and how to find intuition in dance. Stay tuned!

Why you pursue creativity :
Movement has always been my path to freedom. I think creativity is a force that exists beyond oneself. It feels like creativity chooses you to be its vessel, to teach you and occupy your body for a while. Being witnessed in a true vulnerable state is where the juice is. I think I love creativity in performance art so much because it is temporary. It’s not like a painting where you can hang it on the wall afterwards. It exists for just that moment in time, I truly think that is so special.

Why you said yes to this show :
I decided to say yes to working with The Belladonna Collective because of their determination, kindness, and support in running an exquisite show. They are just as professional as they are human. Each member of the Collective has such distinct skills and passions, I am beyond grateful to work with them. And come on, this cast!!?? Y’all…
