Much different than a Diddley Bow…but I’ll get the hang of it…Named after my mother’s only sister who we affectionately called Speedy (cause she walked slow) …It was a birthday gift…I had only tuned it until now. I’m loving her… #speedy #CBG #diddleybow
My art is inspired by a technique of using dots to create abstract art that I create on leather, skin and vinyl that I have entitled, Elythia.
I have been using this technique for more that 25 years. The name is derived from a variety of sources. It is a combination of Eileithyia, pre-Hellenic goddess of childbirth.
I am a birth Doula and an end of life Doula.Byblia ilithyia, the spotted joker or joker, is a species of nymphalid butterfly found in parts of Africa and Asia.
My work is also greatly inspired by the Oromo people of Ethiopia. The art of using dots to paint, also known as “Qallu,” is a traditional form of art among the Oromo people of Ethiopia.
The technique involves using tiny dots of paint or ink to create intricate and detailed patterns on various surfaces, such as leather, cloth, or pottery.
The dots are usually made using a small stick or brush and are applied in a repetitive manner to create geometric designs or images of animals, plants, and people.
The colors used in Qallu painting are typically derived from natural sources, such as minerals, plants, and insects.
The Oromo people use Qallu painting to decorate various objects, such as leather bags, shields, and clothing.
The designs often have symbolic meanings that reflect Oromo culture and beliefs, such as fertility, courage, and protection. In addition to its decorative function, Qallu painting also has a social and spiritual significance.
The art is often used to mark important life events, such as weddings, births, and religious ceremonies.
Qallu artists are highly respected members of the community, and their work is considered to have a powerful spiritual presence.
Overall, Qallu painting is an important part of Oromo culture, and its intricate designs and vibrant colors continue to inspire artists and admirers. #elythia #acryliconvinyl #oromo #arttherapy
